- An Aesop:
- Even if someone might be really brave, they too have fears of their own.

- Are You Sure You Want to Do That?: Barnacles asks Peso this when the only choice was to go through the caves.
- Badass Adorable: Coba manages to escape the crocodiles by squirting ink at them.
- Beneath the Earth: This special takes place in some underground caves.
- Big Damn Heroes: When Barnacles, Peso and Ryla were about to run out of air, Kwazii, Dashi and Tunip arrive just in time and replace their air tanks.
- The Cameo: Bianca from "The Arctic Adventure" appears in Barnacles' flashback.
- Cannot Spit It Out: Captain Barnacles was hesitant to tell Peso his claustrophobia.
- Chekhov's Skill: Coba's swim test at the start of the film helped him escape the crocodiles.
- Cool Boat: This special marks the debut of the GUP-G, GUP-Q and GUP-J.
- Creepy Cave: Not exactly creepy, but the plot involves Peso, Barnacles and Coba entering the Sac Actun caves to get to the Caribbean Sea.
- Dare to Be Badass: When a rock blocks the only way out of a tunnel, Kwazii, Peso and Dashi encourage Captain Barnacles to face his Claustrophobia to help Coba push the rock out of the tunnel.
- Day In The Lime Light: This special focuses on Captain Barnacles and Peso returning their octopus friend Coba to the Caribbean Sea by going through a series of twisty caves.
- Face Your Fears: Barnacles manages to overcome his claustrophobia.
- Foreshadowing: In the trailer, Captain Barnacles had a worried look on his face when entering the caves. Then we find out why.
- From Bad to Worse: Coba can't find the saltwater trail, Ryla can't find any more outflow currents, the group is lost in the caves, they're running out of air, and their only light source is gone.
- Iron Butt Monkey: Coba. Let's see...he gets chased by a shark during his swim test, his fish-pack starts leaking, he gets sick in the cenote's freshwater, gets chased by crocodiles and gets stuck in a tight tunnel.
- Ironic Echo Cut:Kwazii: If I know the captain as well as I do, he's not having a great time down there.[cut to Peso and Barnacles having a good time swinging on the roots.]
- Jumpscare: In-Universe. When Peso sees a Mayan underground statue, he freaks out.
- Not So Stoic: Barnacles is this when going through the caves.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Barnacles showcased several worried looks despite his calm demeanour.
- Personal Horror: Again, Barnacles has this. When he was a cub, he got trapped in a tight space (for a long time) when he (along with some other Polar Bear Scouts) were exploring some caves similar to the ones in the Sac Actun Caves he, Coba and Peso are in.
- The Reveal:
- Captain Barnacles has claustrophobia ever since he was little, that is until he managed to overcome it at the end of the film.
- Dashi originally went cave diving with a friend of hers named Ryla, before becoming an Octonaut.
- Rule of Three: This happens several times throughout the film.
- Say My Name: Coba says his own name throughout the special. Peso says his name whenever something bad happens to him.
- Security Cling: When Dashi, Kwazii and Tunip meet the Poisonous Venom Tooth (or so what they think) for the first time, Tunip leaps onto Kwazii and then both leap onto Dashi.
- So Proud of You: When Barnacles claims that the bravest Octonaut he ever met was Peso.
- Tempting Fate:Peso: How could this get any worse?!(The glowing mushroom goes out)Peso: Well I guess that answers my question.
- Trauma Button: Barnacles said that the Sac Actun caves are a reminder of how he was trapped under the ice when he was young.
- Wham Line
- The reason why Barnacles was nervous going through the caves:
Peso: Captain. Is everything alright?Barnacles: Um, Peso. I've never told you this but, I have a fear of tight, closed-in spaces.Peso: (surprised) But...really? Since when? - What Happened to the Mouse?: It's unknown if Tweak fixed the GUP-H after the crash.
- You Are Not Alone: This encourages Barnacles to face his claustrophobia to help Coba.
