Recap / OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes S1E1 "Let's Be Heroes"

Go To

K.O. aspires to be the greatest hero ever. When he arrives at Lakewood Plaza Turbo with his mom and former champion Carol, he is drawn to Gar's Bodega, run by the powerful Mr. Gar and his two employees Rad and Enid.

Tropes:

  • Boss Subtitles: When characters are introduced, a bunch of text flashes on the screen indicating their name, their strengths, and weaknesses.
  • Cutting Back to Reality: KO fights Darrell for the first time, with him defeating the later in a spectacular fashion. A cut reveals this all to have been a dream, as KO got knocked out from his fire gauntlets going of in his face when blocking Darrell's punch, tripped over his own cape, and got electrocuted from accidentally sitting on his lightning nachos. KO is very embarrassed when told about it.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: You can get a brief glimpse of the back of Carol's debit card when she shoos K.O. out of the Fitness Dojo; according to her signature, her last name is Kincaid.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Part of the reason K.O. got his butt kicked by Darrel was because all the hero gear he got from the bodega only got in the way. The fire gauntlets went off in K.O.'s face when he tried to block Darrel's punch, he tripped over his own cape, and he even got electrocuted when he sat in his lightning nachos.
  • Success Hallucinations: K.O. seems to be winning his first encounter with Darrell, but then he's woken up by A Real Magic Skeleton, who tells him that Darrell easily beat him and he had been knocked into a wall and was unconscious the whole time.
  • Visual Pun: When K.O.'s mother mentions that his babysitter, Punchin' Judy, is fighting the Flu, K.O. finds it hard to believe since she's the toughest fighter in the neighborhood. We then see Judy literally fighting the Flu, knocking it into the van's windshield, where Carol then activates the wipers to clean it off.
