In the final fight against the Overlord, the Ninja all lose something important to them.

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: While Lloyd's Oni form was hyped up to be this, Lloyd's fear prevents it from becoming useful, and the Ninja's new Dragon Form powers are what ultimately save the day, in particular the Golden Ultra Dragon they summon as explained below.
  • All for Nothing: Garmadon's attempts to train Lloyd into using the Oni Form ultimately turn out to be this, as due to Lloyd ultimately deciding to not use the form once he's unlocked it and thanks to the Ninja's efforts, he didn't need the form to put an end to the Crystal King.
  • Chekhov's Gun: As seen in "The Coming of the King" and most importantly all the way back in "Weapons of Destiny", the Golden Weapons all contacting each other caused some sort of explosive reaction. Here, that reaction is finally shown beyond a split second explosion: Freeing the elements from the Golden Weapons to summon the Golden Ultra Dragon, and sending the elements back from whence they came.
  • Faking the Dead: In one last effort by Garmadon to get Lloyd to activate his Oni Form when he, Lloyd, and a recently turned Harumi are unable to defeat the Crystal King, Garmadon fakes his death, even pretending to die as Lloyd's holding him. Lloyd's not too happy when Garmadon reveals the stunt once the battle is over.
  • Grand Finale: For the original 11-year run of Ninjago.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Upon the realization the Crystal King intended on corrupting the elements of creation, the Ninja, upon Wu's instructions, destroy the Golden Weapons to sacrifice their elements, sending them to parts unknown to keep the Crystal King from corrupting them, even if they themselves are. Though thankfully, sacrificing their elements does much more than keep the Overlord from destroying the balance, and as seen in the next series (and as explained in a few novels set after this episode), the Ninja would eventually reacquire their elements.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: When Lloyd decides to back out from using his Oni Form as he was in the midst of taking down the Crystal King, the villain takes the opportunity of hesitance to knock Lloyd off the Oni Temple to fall to his death and finish his plan, crystalizing all life in Ninjago minus Harumi who he was preparing to kill afterwards, and a falling Lloyd (Along with Garmadon who was faking his death). Thankfully, the Ninja's actions manage to save Lloyd from a fatal end and ultimately give him a second chance to save everyone.
  • No Ontological Inertia: Once the Crystal King is defeated, all of the crystals that spawned during his terrorizing of Ninjago City vanish, with all the crystal zombies he corrupted being restored to normal.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Lloyd sees his father die to the Crystal King, triggering his full transformation into his Oni form.
  • You Killed My Father: Lloyd's Oni form is brought about by his desire to avenge his father.
