Marjan fights for her life.

Tropes

  • A Day in the Limelight: Marjan’s fight for survival from a vengeful Grant is the main focus.
  • …And That Little Girl Was Me: When Marjan receives flowers at the hospital, she sees the card signed “our brave little Mouse” from her parents. The smile she gives at this confirms that she was Mouse.
  • Bloody Hallucinations of Guilt: What the car crash between her, Grant, and the unknown third van ultimately was for Marjan, along with Mouse herself.
  • Couldn't Find a Pen: Before fleeing the Winnebago, Marjan writes a message in her own blood to indicate her presence on one of the cabinets. When Judd finds it, we see it reads “126.”
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: When Marjan reaches the location of the van, she instructs Mouse to look away, close her eyes and count up to 100 slowly while she investigates the wreck. When she comes back, Mouse already figures out that the family she was with died.
  • Dead All Along: Zig-zagged with Mouse, who appears to Marjan, helps her out of her car and accompanies her on her escape from Grant, seemingly appearing as a real person. It’s only when she’s rescued and desperately insisting to Owen to go back for Mouse that she reaches out and sees the little girl vanish before her eyes.
  • Determinator: Both Marjan and Grant during the episode-long chase, despite both of them being heavily injured from the initial car crash.
  • Flare Gun: Marjan takes one from Grant’s Winnebago after taking a few minutes to treat her gunshot wound. When he corners her in a nearby ditch with Owen, Judd and Paul calling out for her, she uses it to kill him and (through an ensuing fire) alert her teammates to her location.
  • Foreshadowing: Mouse and Marjan seem to share a lot of traits in common with each other, indicating that they’re the same person. The ones of particular note are the positions they played on their soccer teams, Mouse having quite a bit of physical strength for her age, and their determination to keep someone alive at any cost.
  • Immediate Self-Contradiction: During her FaceTime call with the 126, Marjan immediately suspects that Owen will want to celebrate her return with a party. He promises not to go too all-out… cut to his next scene at his house, where he insists on decorating the entire living room with LED balloons and has three canapé dishes prepared.
  • Internal Reveal: While tracking down Marjan with help from Grace, and looking through Instagram, Carlos and Mateo learn about Grant and his abuse of Kylie.
  • It's All My Fault: Mouse believes herself responsible for the Dawsons’ deaths because Mr. Dawson was distracted with cheering her up.
  • Oh, Crap!: Marjan when she sees Grant’s Winnebago speeding up right behind her.
  • Sleep Cute: After Marjan is taken to the hospital, TK falls asleep on Carlos’ arm as they and the 126 wait for news from her surgeon.
  • Surprise Car Crash: Marjan is involved in two of them, especially with the reveal that she used to be Mouse. The first one is the present crash from Grant running her off the road; the second one was a similar incident to the Dawsons’ car accident that was shown at the start of the episode.
  • Thousand-Yard Stare: Tommy gets this on remembering the rest of her daughter’s ballet recital.
  • Used to Be More Social: Inverted. It’s implied through Mouse that Marjan used to be more modest about her wins when she was a little girl, with Mr. Dawson having to encourage her to celebrate a successful goal.
  • You Can Barely Stand: Due to the blood loss from her gunshot to the stomach and her broken ribs, Marjan becomes increasingly unable to speed-walk, let alone sit up. Grant even lampshades this when he corners her and Mouse, and by the time Owen, Paul and Judd find her, she’s barely conscious.
