When the wife of a navy captain is kidnapped and the officer himself held hostage next to his own computer, the NCIS team are forced to turn to the man's blind daughter to help them catch the perpetrators.
- Ascended Extra: McGee officially becomes a part of Team Gibbs at the end of the episode. Palmer also officially becomes Ducky's new assistant near the beginning.
- Blind Musician: Mixed with Child Prodigy, 9-year-old Sandy Watson is a blind pianist.
- Break the Cutie: Poor, poor Sandy gets kidnaped, almost made deaf, and still loses a parent in the end when her father gets arrested.
- The Cutie: Sandy is positively adorable and brings out the parental/older sibling instincts in the whole team.
- Ear Ache: The kidnapper threatens to deafen Sandy.
- Faked Kidnapping: Captain Watson Arranged the kidnapping of his own wife and daughter for profit.
- Foreshadowing: Gibbs' fatherly attitude towards Sandy, the way he lashes out at Watson in the end for endangering his wife and daughter, and even knowing what a barrette is are all the first hints in the show that he once had a family.
- Heat Wave: The episode takes place during one. Played for Drama when the heat stalls out Abby's computer during a crucial hack.
- Modulation: Sandy uses her strong sense of hearing and knowledge of music keys to help Abby filter the audio feed from the kidnapping.
- Skirts and Ladders: McGee accidentally looks up Kate's skirt once, then does it again while keeping her steady.
- Super-Senses: A more realistic version. Due to her blindness, Sandy has a very keen sense of hearing.
- Voice of the Legion: The kidnapper uses a voice disguiser while negotiating with Captain Watson.
