Recap / My Little Pony: Make Your Mark: S2 E7 "Hoof Done It?"

Go To

Zipp investigates the theft of Sunny's lantern, and when Pipp stumbles upon it first, she decides to leave clues so Zipp can spend more time being a detective.

Tropes:

  • Brick Joke: When Sunny desperately tries to gather everypony in town together to try and find the lantern, Izzy thinks they're playing a big game of tag. After the gathering is called off following the lantern's return, Windy voices confusion, thinking they really were playing tag.
  • Buffy Speak: Izzy refers to the lantern's glow as "rainbow-y".
  • Call-Back:
    • Pipp sings some lyrics from "Everything is Gonna Be Okay" while going about her morning routine.
    • Pipp notes the glitter she used to mark the lantern's hiding spot was aquamarine, just like her "sparkle". Izzy had informed Pipp of her sparkle's color during A New Generation.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Izzy once again uses the word "belizzle".
    • Izzy uses Senor Butterscotch (the artificial unicorn friend she created in the Tell Your Tale episode "It's T.U.E.S. Day") as a Sleeping Dummy when she goes outside to gather tea leaves.
  • Dramatic Irony: Misty really did steal the lantern, but Pipp's intervention deflects any suspicion from her.
  • Drone Deployer: Zipp's detective sash contains a miniature "ponydrone" that aids her in her investigations.
  • Fingertip Drug Analysis: Zipp does this to some dirt on Sunny's nightstand, identifies it as being from the community garden, then realizes she just licked dirt.
  • Furry Reminder: The pegasi protagonists hover instead of walking through crime scenes, because the latter might disturb hoofprint evidence.
  • Interrupted Catchphrase: Misty tries to use the "hoof to heart" pledge while telling Opaline that she'll get her the lantern, only for Opaline to cut her off halfway through.
  • Mistaken for Evidence: Happens twice, both involving Izzy.
    • First, Zipp checks the kitchen fridge and finds an apple with one bite taken out of it. She's sure it points to something fishy, but it turns out Izzy had started eating it and was looking for the rest.
    • Later, Zipp finds dirt on Sunny's nightstand and the bedroom floor. She thinks it was left by the thief, but Izzy later admits to tracking it in after she borrowed the lantern to get some tea leaves from the community garden.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Downplayed; Pipp stops Misty's interrogation to tell Zipp that the lantern is no longer missing, but its a null point since Misty herself genuinely lost sight of it and wouldn't have given Zipp the answers she was looking for at the time. On the other hand, had Pipp not come along when she did, Zipp might have found out from Misty about Opaline's identity.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Misty doesn't come off as innocent when she keeps running away from Zipp.
  • Perp Sweating: Zipp tries this on Izzy, who cheerfully admits that she borrowed and returned the lantern. The spotlight on Izzy comes courtesy of Zipp's drone, hovering just overhead.
  • Sequel Hook: After Misty returns empty-hoofed, Opaline announces that she's changing plans again, and now wants the power of Sparky's magic fire.
  • Spanner in the Works: Misty buries the lantern in the garden overnight and plans to retrieve it the next morning, only for Pipp to stumble upon it before she arrives.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: After Izzy explains that she took the lantern to light her way to the garden for some tea leaves, Zipp asks why she didn't just use her horn.
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Peach Fizz tells Zipp she and her friends definitely weren't up all night watching YouHoof videos. Zipp lampshades it and they admit the truth about that.
  • Tempting Fate: After questioning Izzy in the bathroom, Zipp sits down on a stool and leans back against the tub, musing that she's "on the edge of something." Right on cue, she loses her balance and topples into the tub, getting doused with water and shampoo.
  • Visual Pun: At the end of "Where'd It Go?", Peach Fizz is shown with her hoof in a cookie jar.
