Recap / My Hero Academia S2E1 "That's the Idea, Ochaco"

Go To

As the students and teachers recover from the attack on USJ, Izuku learns why Ochaco wants to become a hero. The announcement of the upcoming U.A. Sports Festival has everyone pumped, leading to Izuku and All Might talk about their future following the USJ attack.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: The scene with Gran Torino reading a letter from All Might, his first anime appearance, is not in the manga.
  • As You Know: The recap at the start of the episode is framed as a letter to Gran Torino, but includes details about the mechanics of One For All that are both closely guarded secrets and information Gran Torino is already well aware of.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Seeing Ochaco more aggressive than ever prompts Mineta to make a PMS joke, but Tsuyu smacks him with her tongue before he could finish.
  • Only in It for the Money: The main reason for Ochaco wanting to become a hero, but she justifies it that she wants to support her parents' construction company.
  • The Olympics: If your school ever had a Field Day, the U.A. Sports Festival is essentially this turned to 11. As Aizawa explains, with the appearance of Quirks, the actual Olympics became more irrelevant and the Festival has become one of the most watched events in the country. This allows the students (including those not in the Hero Courses) to show off their moves in various events, allowing for any Hero Agencies to recruit them after graduation.
  • Passing the Torch: Because One For All is a unique Quirk that can only be passed down to another person, All Might considers it appropriate that Midoriya becomes his successor the day he finally retires, especially since his transformed state has become more limited and the Villains are growing bolder since the USJ attack.

Izuku Midoriya! I want to introduce yourself to the world, and proudly say "I am here!".
~All Might
