Lunella makes the life-changing decision to reveal her secret to her family… just as her deadliest enemy tracks her down, looking for his pound of flesh.

  • Both Sides Have a Point: Lunella shows that she has been a superhero for a good while and has experience in handling dangerous enemies. However, her family try to take her out of danger earlier because she's still young and in as much danger as the rest of them.
  • Break the Cutie: Poor Lunella is put through hell throughout the entire episode. From being berated by her family, minus Mimi, for keeping her secret about being Moon Girl from them, from having to hear them suffer at the hands of Molecule Man, and just when it seems like it's over, Adria tells Lunella that she is to never be Moon Girl again, much to her shock.
  • Cliffhanger: After Molecule Man's taken care of, Adria praises the abilities Lunella demonstrated as a heroine. Unfortunately, witnessing her daughter facing deadly odds, as well as learning she's hid and lied about her superhero life, Adria outright forbids her from ever being Moon Girl again. Pops, meanwhile, feels betrayed for Mimi keeping her Moon Girl past from him for decades.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Moon Girl defeats but spares Molecule Man, whose world was destroyed by Beyonder, which strips him of everything that mattered in his life. After using a piece of her self-healing suit to heal him, they make amends before Molecule Man repairs her home. He then returns to his homeworld to fix it.
  • Dramatic Drop: Upon hearing her mother say she's never heroing again, Lunella drops her Moon Girl helmet in shock.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Adria uses Lunella's full name for one of the few times in the series, which leads into her later forbidding Lunella from heroing.
  • Group Reacts Individually: Each member of the Lafayette family takes in Lunella's reveal in their own way:
    • Mimi, Lu's grandma, already knows since the end of last season, so she has been waiting for her to step forward so she can reveal her scientist past as well.
    • James Sr./Pops, Lu's granddad, takes the news better than anyone, helped by how he worked with an alien dog during the season. However, he feels betrayed after Mimi revealed her Moon Girl past, since they had been married for decades.
    • James Jr, Lu's dad, has a bit of an emotional roller-coaster; both excited and terrified that his daughter is a superhero and has an interdimensional T-Rex for a companion. Being a dad, this is natural, especially for the latter.
    • Just as natural is Adria's, Lu's mom. She's proud of her girl for being strong and courageous but, seeing just how dangerous it really is thanks to Molecule Man's attack (as well as the fact her daughter has hid this from her) sinks in, and she believes Lunella shouldn't be involved heroing anymore.
  • Internal Reveal: Mimi knows Lunella made her way back from the other side of the multiverse at the start of the season, but Mimi didn't know Lunella almost got killed by Molecule Man until now.
  • Mama Bear: When Molecule Man corners Lunella in her room and is about to kill her:
Adria: You touch one hair on her head, and I won't even need gamma rays to go FULL HULK ON YOU!
  • Mid-Season Twist: Lunella and Mimi confess to being the Moon Girls and Molecule Man leaves to rebuild his home on peaceful terms with Lunella. However, Pops' trust in Mimi is shaken and Adria forbids her daughter from heroing ever again.
  • Ominous Obsidian Ooze: Molecule Man's new self-transformation ability makes his body resemble a free-flowing oil slick.
  • The Power of Hate: Molecule Man gained the power to alter the molecules of his own body because of his intense desire for revenge. With this, his old wand is no longer needed.
  • Revenge by Proxy: Molecule Man attacks Lunella only because he couldn't find Beyonder anywhere. He then tries to kill her family so she knows how it feels to be helpless while everything that mattered is taken away.
  • Triumphant Reprise: While the "Deep Within Mashup" initially starts off as a Dark Reprise of the original song from the season premiere, even having imagery harkening back to Lunella's first hopeless fight with Molecule Man, the song changes to a much more uplifting and heroic tone halfway through once Lunella begins to turn things around in the rematch in this episode. Lampshaded mid-battle.
Molecule Man: You know how this ends. We've done this little dance before.
Moon Girl: But not to my music.
  • Rule of Symbolism: One of the items in the apartment that was destroyed and later repaired by Molecule Man is a framed picture of the smiling Lafayette family. After the events of such result in seriously shattered trust between Lunella and Mimi, and the rest of the family, it cracks again. This is what the episode ends on.
  • Special Edition Title: Instead of a comical animation that plays while the credits roll, this episode's credits are just a black background with white text with somber music playing in the background which fits the tone of the episode's ending.
  • Tempting Fate: Lunella explains to her family that she is able to balance her life in school, home, and her hero career and assures that, outside of Casey, Marvin/Kid Kree, and Devil, so one else knows about her. She didn't count on Molecule Man tracking her down.
  • Wham Episode: The rest of Lunella's family finds out about her and Mimi's secrets, and Adria forbids Lunella from heroing again.
  • Wham Line: Right near the very end of the episode:
Adria: Lunella "Moon Girl" Lafayette. You are not only the bravest, strongest and smartest person I have ever met, you are also becoming the most kind, compassionate and wise. You are everything a superhero should be.
    Lunella: Thank you, mom.
Adria: But, you are my daughter, and you are NEVER doing this again!
