Recap / Milo Murphy's Law S1E09 "Worked Day"

Go To

It's career day and Milo is having a hard time deciding what his career should be. Meanwhile, Dakota and Cavendish try and make sure a shipment truck full of pistachios make it to the pistachio warehouse.

Tropes:

  • Acquainted with Emergency Services: When Melissa's father, a firefighter, asked Milo if he was at the fish hatchery this morning, Milo was flattered that he would ask him and then gave him a deadpan irritated "no".
  • Actor Allusion: The plot and moral of the episode are similar to those in "Weird Al" Yankovic's first children's book, When I Grow Up. We also learn at the end that his mother is an architect, which was what Al went to college for before becoming a full-time performer.
  • Brick Joke: When the MRI at the hospital goes haywire, Milo's metallic backpack contents are pulled out and stick to the MRI; this includes an anchor (which Melissa questions and Milo doesn't really explain). Later, Milo's mom asks where the anchor went.
  • Canon Welding: Dakota's map says that the city is Danville, confirming that this show shares a setting with Phineas and Ferb.
  • Don't Call Me "Sir": Inverted and Parodied.
    Milo: Hi, Zack's Mom.
Eileen: Please, just call me "Dr. Zack's Mom".
  • Don't Explain the Joke: After asking Cavendish how he can be so out of bunnies in spite of wearing a top hat, Dakota explains he asked that because Cavendish's outfit makes him look like a magician.
  • Literal Metaphor: The street Dakota and Cavendish take the truck from and the street they must take it to are really called "A" and "B". Later on, Dakota literally rides on Cavendish's coattails.
  • Not Me This Time: Milo and his bad luck have nothing to do with the fire at the fish hatchery but one of the firefighters feels the need to ask.
  • Self-Deprecation: In "Worked Day", when Milo is looking at a list of possible careers he could choose for Career Day:
Milo: And some of these don't even sound like real jobs. Animator? I think it's a typo. But what if that is a real job?
