Max and Norman hijack Lava Lord's secret weapon, the Humongous Mecha, Magus, and use it to try to storm Skull Mountain. Along the way, Max realizes from a hint Norman drops that maybe Virgil betraying them was just an act so they could get their hands on a superweapon like Magus to destroy Skullmaster with ease.
Skullmaster uses Virgil like a human (fowl, actually) shield, and Max refuses to kill his enemy if it means also killing his friend. Instead, he agrees to take Skullmaster with them when they escape back to the surface. The arch villain flies away on a dragon, free to conquer once more.
Tropes:
- Callback: Lava Lord going over the lava waterfall trying to save Magus as the scene cuts out is a lot like Skullmaster's plunge over the falls from the first episode.
- Honor Before Reason: Max refuses to kill Virgil and lets Skullmaster escape his prison. This obviously only leaves Skullmaster free to do all the things they were hoping he'd have no chance whatsoever to do by launching a sneak attack on him.
- Instant Expert: Max somehow knows how to pilot a giant robot. For what it's worth, some of the weapons do give him trouble at first.
