Recap / Mickey Mouse S 5 E 18 Carried Away

Go To

"Carried Away" is the 18th episode of Season 5 of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It is the 96th in the series. This is the final short of the original series and the last short released while Russi Taylor, the voice of Minnie, was alive.

Minnie sings a special song for Mickey on her ukulele while Mickey tries to safeguard her as their rowboat trip goes worldwide.

Tropes:

  • Aside Glance: Mickey pulls one when the canoe winds up in Canada while he's trying to figure out how they ended up there.
  • Big "WHAT?!": When Minnie says that she wrote him a song, Mickey makes a low-pitched "Whaaaaaa?" as a computer-generated explosion occurs behind him.
  • The Cameo: Among the tourists at Niagara Falls are Daisy Duck, Clarabelle Cow, Clara Cluck, the Big Bad Wolf, the Three Little Wolves, Toby Tortoise, Max Hare, Elmer Elephant, Tillie Tiger, and two skeletons from The Skeleton Dance.
  • Comically Missing the Point: This exchange:
Minnie: Oh, it's nothing special, but I poured my heart and soul into it! [pulls out ukulele]
Mickey: You crammed your soul into a ukulele?!
  • End of an Age: This marks the final voice performance of Russi Taylor before passing away.
  • Grand Finale: Ended up being the last episode of the series due to Russi Taylor's death. The series was succeeded by The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse one year later.
  • Hungry Jungle: Mickey and Minnie end up in the Amazon rainforest and get attacked by snakes and piranhas.
  • Inevitable Waterfall: Mickey and Minnie almost end up going over Niagara Falls.
  • Mickey Mousing: Several moments in the short are timed to sync up precisely with the song Minnie's singing.
  • Musical Episode: Most of the short is set to Minnie's song.
  • Old-Fashioned Rowboat Date: Mickey and Minnie are on a canoe in a city canal. Minnie serenades Mickey on an ukulele, a gender reversal of the usual scenario. Of course, things don't go exactly according to plan.
  • Piranha Problem: Mickey deals with this when he and Minnie are launched into the Amazon.
  • Rearrange the Song: The end credits theme is played on a ukulele and is lower-pitched than usual.
  • Repeat After Me: When Mickey and Minnie are going over Niagara Falls, Mickey has to use a stowed-away piranha as a grappling hook, and it lands on Goofy just as he's about to take a picture of a family of tourists.
Goofy: Okay, everyone. Say chee- (the piranha bites Goofy in the nose) YEOOOOOOW!
    Tourists: (giddily) Chee-YEOOW!
  • Suspiciously Apropos Music: The main schtick of the short; the lyrics of Minnie's song accurately match the stuff that happens around her and Mickey.
  • Tempting Fate: When Minnie asks Mickey if he'd like to hear her song, he replies, "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
  • We Are Not Going Through That Again: It turns out Minnie was fully aware of everything going on as she sang her song, so she anchors the canoe so Mickey can listen without having to save them again.
  • Wild Take: Mickey does one as they approach Niagara Falls.
  • World Tour: Mickey and Minnie's rowboat date ends up turning into one of these.
