Recap / Mickey Mouse S 4 E 5 Bee Inspired

Go To

"Bee Inspired" is the fifth season 4 short of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It's the 63rd to air on the Disney Channel and to be put up on Disney.com.

Mickey offers to help Minnie for inspiration for her artwork, but he has trouble keeping his cool thanks to Spike the Bee's antics.

Tropes:

  • Amusing Injuries: Mickey gets battered in hilarious ways while trying to save Spike from falling to his doom.
  • Bee Afraid: Played with. Mickey constantly panics that Spike bugging him will sting him and he is nearly stung by a bunch of other bees, but he ends up getting along with Spike and that same bee talks the others out of stinging Mickey as a show of gratitude.
  • The Bus Came Back: Spike the Bee is probably one of the more obscure characters to make a comeback.
  • Disney Death: Mickey at one point appears to have killed Spike, but after regretting his actions, he successfully resuscitates the bee.
  • Fun with Subtitles: Spike only speaks in unintelligible buzzing, but he has subtitles translating his words when he asks the other bees not to hurt Mickey and informs them that Mickey saved his life.
  • Gainax Ending: The ending scene as Mickey and Minnie observe the painting is suddenly presented as recursive de-evolution as we see various Mickeys and Minnies from older generations observing one after the other.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Mickey is instantly remorseful when it appears that he killed Spike.
  • Mythology Gag: At the very end of the short, when Minnie shows Mickey the painting she's made, we see the scene zoom out to show the painting being observed by various older incarnations of Mickey and Minnie, all the way back to their appearances in Plane Crazy.
