Sophie, Colonel Potter's horse, goes missing and a frantic search begins to locate her. Meanwhile, Ham, a young South Korean teen, attempts to evade ROK army recruiters with help from Hawkeye and BJ, and Klinger tries to raise money for a scheme to bribe Col. Potter into letting him out of the Army.
Attention all personnel! Sophie has disappeared with the following tropes:
- Brick Joke: When Potter threatens Klinger with 20 years in Leavenworth if he doesn't knock off his attempts to bribe Potter, Klinger offers him $10 to forget the whole thing. In The Stinger, Potter asks to borrow the $10 for drinks.
- Disguised in Drag: Hawkeye and Trapper subject Ham to this in an attempt to evade the army recruiters. It works, with some help from Winchester.
- Double-Meaning Title: Referred to in-story by Klinger as "every man has his price," as part of his bribery scheme, but also seems to be saying something larger about the price of living through war, one that plays out in different ways for both Mr. Pak and Ham.
- Fallen-on-Hard-Times Job: Mr. Pak, once a proud cavalry general, is ashamed to have been reduced to the status of a lowly laundryman.
- Got Volunteered: This and other episodes show this as the ROK army's chosen method of recruitment.
- Honor Before Reason: Ham is ultimately too ashamed to keep hiding and eventually leaves to join the South Korean army, over Hawkeye and BJ's protests.
- Indy Ploy: Winchester's gambit of pretending to get angry with Hawkeye and BJ for putting a woman in his bed—after he's already blown their lie that he was the one in the bed.
- Pet the Dog: Winchester is reluctant to assist Hawkeye and BJ in helping Ham hide, but when the recruiters show up he acts like Ham is a girl that Hawkeye and BJ were having fun with.
- Status Quo Is God: Mr. Pak conveniently dies the day after Potter gives Sophie to him so that the horse can be returned.
- Still Wearing the Old Colors: Mr. Pak breaks out his old cavalry uniform to wear while riding Sophie.
