Tropes

  • Big Brother Bully: Bud pulls a Jerkass Ball upon Kelly as first, he demands his parents sell off Kelly's schoolbooks for money and second, he threatens to hurt Kelly physically when she asks for his help in getting Yvette removed from their house.
  • Book Dumb: Both Kelly and Yvette fail all their classes just to go on dates. For Yvette, she gets sent back to France while Kelly's life goes on as usual. Al mentioned Yvette even failed French class.
  • The Ditz: Yvette falls for Kelly's plan to let Yvette cheat off her test, even after hearing Kelly was failing her classes and telling Kelly herself she'll get her boyfriends back if she goes back to France.
  • Epic Fail: Al complained that Yvette, who is from France, managed to fail French.
  • It's All About Me: Kelly vows to get rid of Yvette just to start dating again.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Yvette getting expelled from school for poor grades and sent back to France is this for the Bundy family minus Kelly, who helped get Yvette kicked out.
    • For Al and Peg for neglecting to pay attention to Kelly's depression and being terrible hosts to Yvette by forcing her to sleep in the garage with no heat.
    • For Bud for threatening to hurt Kelly when she wanted Yvette to go away.
    • For even Yvette herself for trying to steal Kelly's life.
  • Mistaken for Cheating: Marcy thinks Yvette living in the Bundy's garage is a mistress Al brought home because he was too cheap to put her in a hotel.
  • Only in It for the Money: Al and Peggy only care about the $500 that Yvette pays them for living at their house, they don't vacate a room for her, they just leave her to sleep in the garage where the gate can't be pulled down for some reason, and don't provide any food for her.
  • Status Quo Is God: As Yvette was failing all her classes and would eventually be kicked out of the cold garage the Bundys extradited her to, Kelly manipulates her into going on dates and continue to forgoing her homework and studies. Thus the Bundys are back where they started, eating pizza crusts (after dividing the rest of the pizza for separate days) because they lose the $500 a month Yvette was paying them.
  • Thanksgiving Episode: Although this episode isn't generally about Thanksgiving, it is said that the Bundys only got to eat cheese off a pizza for Thanksgiving and so the next day they're eating the rest of the pizza, now cheeseless. Disappointed by yet another famished Thanksgiving, the Bundys agree to take in a foreign exchange student for $500 a month and start eating well... only to find out she's in danger of failing all her classes and could be sent back to France as a consequence.
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Kelly considers Yvette to be this.
