The cops bring Hubert in for interrogation, but he refuses to respond to their questions and ultimately calls in a favor from the Minister for the Interior, who forces his release. Once out of custody, he regroups with Pascal and Léonard; Pascal informs Hubert of his discovery that Assane has an accomplice, Benjamin Férel. Hubert instructs Léonard to tail Benjamin to Assane's home, and to kill Assane once there. However, in private, he tells Pascal to follow Léonard, kill him, and frame Assane for the crime.

The plan goes smoothly: Pascal murders Léonard in Assane's apartment and calls the police to the scene. When Assane discovers Léonard's body, hears approaching police sirens, and realizes what has happened, he flees, calling Benjamin up and instructing him to do the same. Assane's identity as the orchestrator of the Louvre heist and the supposed murderer of Léonard is made public, much to the horror of Claire and Juliette, and he quickly becomes the most infamous person in France. For the next few days, Assane and Benjamin go on the run; although they are nearly caught by the police several times they always manage to get away.

Meanwhile, Guédira discovers a nonsense comment posted by someone with the username "Ganimard" on an article about Assane's exploits. Immediately suspecting that Assane is attempting to contact him, he unscrambles the message, which reveals the location of a USB drive containing footage of Assane's inquisition of Dumont, in which the embattled commissioner admits to accepting bribes from criminals.

Tropes that appear in this episode:

  • Assassins Are Always Betrayed: Léonard is murdered on Hubert's orders after having screwed up too many times.
  • Dancing with Myself: While making dinner for himself and J'accuse, Assane dances to "Reach Out (I'll Be There)" by the Four Tops. He doesn't realize that Léonard is being strangled to death by Pascal in the next room.
  • Frameup: Hubert's plan is to have his Token Competent Minion Pascal Oblet kill Léonard in Assane's apartment. From Hubert's perspective this kills two birds with one stone—Assane will now be wanted by the police for an incredibly serious crime, but it also eliminates Léonard, who has come to be regarded by Hubert as more trouble than he's worth.
  • I Know Your True Name: While he's being questioned by the police, Hubert gives them Assane's real name (up until then they had invariably referred to him as "Paul Sernine," the alias he'd used while stealing the queen's necklace from the Louvre).
  • Fugitive Arc: After he is framed for Léonard's killing, Assane is forced to leave his apartment and go on the run.
  • Incredibly Obvious Tail: Possibly as an intimidation tactic, Pascal tails Benjamin by walking directly behind him a few meters away.
  • Public Secret Message: Assane writes a comment on a news story about himself under the name "Ganimard." When Guédira sees this, he immediately suspects that Assane is trying to contact him, and manages to find a clue in the apparent gibberish Assane has written.
  • Razor Floss: How Pascal kills Léonard.
  • Safe Zone Hope Spot: Turns out Benjamin's secret bunker wasn't so secret after all...because when he fled his shop following Léonard's murder, he accidentally left a card detailing its location out in the open. When the police are called to investigate the shop, they quickly find it, and use it to locate him and Assane.
  • Tunnel Network: The Catacombs of Paris, which Assane and Benjamin use to escape the police.
  • You're Not My Father: Raoul doesn't show much interest in bonding with Claire's new paramour Marc, particularly when the guy wonders aloud whether he's too old to be reading Arsène Lupin stories. Luckily for Raoul, Marc disappears from the show after this—perhaps insulting Arsène Lupin was a bridge too far for Claire.
