Recap / Little Princess S 2 E 19 I Want My Puppets

Go To

The Princess is in her bedroom, playing with puppets of Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf. The narrator compliments the puppets and asks if she's doing a show. The Princess replies that she is practising for a show that will happen later.

She loads the puppets into her dolls' pram and goes downstairs and into the garden, where the King is asleep. She wakes him up and asks him to help make a puppet theatre but he says he can't until the next day. Thankfully, the Queen shows up, offering help. The Princess then puts up a poster and invites the General to the show. She accidentally drops two puppets in mud, and then the Maid, Gardener, and Prime Minister also show up and get invited for the show. The Prime Minister asks if there will be "refreshments", but the Princess doesn't know what those are, so he defines it as snacks and drinks.

So, the Princess asks the Chef to make popcorn and he does, but he finds it beneath him. She puts cheese sauce on it but accidentally gets it on the puppets, and Puss gets his paw stuck to the pram with cheese. The Princess sees the King and Queen working on the puppet theatre outside and goes out to check on it (accidentally dragging Puss along).

Outside, Puss has gotten unstuck and the puppet theatre is nearly complete, but when she goes to set up the show, she accidentally decapitates the Granny puppet with her pram's wheel. When she sees the puppets covered in mud and cheese sauce, she starts screaming and declares the show to be off, then bursts into tears.

The adults come in to see why the Princess cancelled the show, and the King and Queen encourage her to replace the puppets. So, she steals a sock off everyone and makes the show with sock puppets.

This episode provides examples of

  • Aesop Amnesia: The Princess steals the grown-ups' socks and several craft supplies to make her sock puppets, despite learning not to steal in "I Want a Shop".
  • Amusing Injuries: When the Princess is making the two sock puppets fight, she accidentally hurts her hand.
  • Captain Obvious: The Princess makes her Red Riding Hood puppet say, "I don't want to get eaten by the Big Bad Wolf", which should go without saying.
  • Ladies and Germs: Averted at first when the Princess simply says, "Ladies and gentlemen", but later played straight when she addresses the grownups and pets as "ladies and gentlemen, cat and dog".
  • Mistaken Age: A weird variation. The Admiral mishears "puppets" as "puppies" and so mistakes the full-grown wolf in the play for a puppy.
  • Ow, My Body Part!: When the Princess is making two sock puppets fight each other, she says, "Ouch, my hand!".
  • Serious Business: The Princess cries over the puppets simply being dirty and the Granny's head falling off, when the Granny's head could be glued on and the other two cleaned. Even the King and Queen, who don't take it as seriously as the Princess, think the puppets need replacing when the problems could just be fixed.
  • Shout-Out: The Princess makes a puppet play of Little Red Riding Hood.
  • Tempting Fate: When the Princess sees her Red Riding Hood and wolf puppets dirty, she says, "Granny's all right though", and then the head immediately falls off of the Granny puppet.
