"Sample" is the thirty-fourth episodenote of Lilo & Stitch: The Series. It first aired on January 11, 2004.
An experiment that can record sounds and play them back is chased by a pair of friends who want to prove that aliens are real.
Experiments who appeared or were mentioned in this episode:
- Sample (X-258): This episode's Monster of the Week; an orange koala/cat-like with ears that act as speakers and a purple microphone-like nose who is designed to record sounds that he hears and play them back repeatedly in a rhythm to annoy people into madness.
- Reuben (X-625)
This episode contains examples of:
- Afraid of Needles: This episode reveals that Stitch has this fear, as he is willing to go into water (OK, the shower) to avoid getting his shots. Most likely justified by the way his DNA got extracted while imprisoned in the first film.
- An Aesop: Always keep your promises. If you don't hold up your end of the bargain, people won't see any point in holding their end.
- Cassandra Truth: Merwin and Dean finally get to show off a real alien when they force Gantu to perform for them for losing Stitch and Sample. However, two of the attendees there are completely unconvinced, believing Gantu to be a Samoan in a whale suit.
- Dreadful Musician: Downplayed; Fox Roswell and the Tall Greys can perform but they have absolutely no rhythm, making them sound terrible. Once Sample joins them, however, their performance improves immensely.
- Even Nerds Have Standards: Merwin and Dean are so obsessed with trying to be the "first" humans to discover and show off aliens that two of the other alien convention-goers find them lame.
- Flushing Toilet, Screaming Shower: Stitch hides in the shower and turns the water on in an attempt to get out of getting the shots he needs due to disguising himself as a dog. Lilo flushes the toilet to get him to come out.
- Geek: Merwin Finklestein and Dean, the two chasing after Sample in this episode, are stereotypical geeks who desire to become the "first" to discover aliens.
- Jerkass Has a Point: Although Merwin and Dean exposing Gantu in place of the alien experiments would normally seem low on paper, they do point out that the deal was he keep the experiments contained. Since the experiments escaped on his watch, they saw it only fitting they use him as alien proof in their place.
- Know-Nothing Know-It-All: At the previous year's alien convention, Merwin and Dean brought an ostrich to show off and tried to pass it off as an alien. They became huge laughing stocks for that.
