Tropes

  • Developing Doomed Characters: The actors of Magga's troupe. Illusian, the playwright and owner, is a Small Name, Big Ego who imagines himself a great artist. Denji and Tria are Sickeningly Sweethearts who want to settle down and start a family. There is also a wagon-driver named Parr who doesn't get much characterization.
  • Don't Fear the Reaper: Zigzagged. While Lamb is cordial to Magga, she and Wolf aren't actually after her. And seconds after the whole conversation, they dash off to reap the souls of all the other performers.
  • Hollywood Heart Attack: The stereotypical "sharp pain in the chest" ends Magga's life.
  • I Have Many Names: Besides Lamb and Wolf, the Kindred mention Ina and Ani, and Farya and Wolyo. Naturally, when it comes to Magga, they know her name.
  • Scheherezade Gambit: When confronted by Death, Magga uses various acting techniques to stall them. (It doesn't work, but it was a brave effort).
  • Together in Death: Denji and Tria, the couple in the troupe, die with their fingers entwined.
  • Touched by Vorlons: After Magga's brush with death, she salvages the actors' two-faced mask and goes on to become a world-famous performer, legendary for her spellbinding portrayal of the Kindred.
  • Wowing Cthulhu: The Kindred tell Magga that they enjoyed her acting and will continue to watch her performances.
