Tropes

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Gordon catches this from co-owner Lisa when he offers constructive criticism on the subpar food.
Lisa: He comes from a country where they think scones are delicious!
  • Berserk Button: When Gordon discovers raw pork next to hot wings he absolutely goes ballistic. Cross-contaminating raw meat with cooked meat is a one-way ticket to automatic shutdown.
  • Downer Ending: The ending made it look as if the restaurant would survive - Ramsay had gotten the couple running the restaurant back together, got the attention of the restaurant to the town, and remodeled the restaurant to remove the tacky tiki theme. However, the bar manager Robby hates the new décor, which causes a small fuss between him and Ramsay, although the relaunch ultimately goes well. Eventually, they went back to their old menu and décor, which caused the reviews to go down. The restaurant managed to stay open until December 2016.
  • Hypocritical Humor: The episode has Gordon bemused by the presence of a fortune teller at the restaurant; initially mocking her, he proceeds to ask for a reading from the woman using her cards, and she predicts that the owners - who were a husband and wife pair struggling to keep their marriage afloat due to the restaurant's problems - will end up splitting apart. Not only does the show insert a sudden musical sting to make viewers take this entirely seriously, Gordon himself looks concerned by this.
  • Mundane Object Amazement: When Ramsay learns that the owners don't even know their own finances, he brings in an accountant to help. One owner becomes absolutely giddy and even remarks that she's probably the only person ever to get excited about seeing an accountant.
