Go To

John Redcorn is having difficulty finding an audience for his band, Big Mountain Fudgecake, so he secures funding to found an Indian casino on his land to have a permanent venue to play at. Meanwhile, Mr. Strictland entrusts Hank to organize the Strictland Propane Family Fun Day, but he's having trouble finding suitable entertainment for the event.

Tropes:

  • Actor Allusion: This episode seems to be inspired by Jonathan Joss's music career.
  • Artistic License – Law: John Redcorn learns that his casino was illegal, and Henry Mankiller purposefully scammed him, because Native American tribes traded their federal gaming rights to the state of Texas, in exchange for recognition of their tribes. In actuality, Indian casinos are allowed in Texas, so long as the gambling they offer do not violate state laws.
  • Breakup Breakout: In-Universe, Elvin and Lucky refuse to play at the family picnic because they don't think it constitutes rock and roll. While they end up loser musicians, John Redcorn ends up reformatting his music and becoming a minor celebrity of sorts.
  • Dreadful Musician: John Redcorn's metal music is this because of the dark lyrics, and his poor singing. As a children's musician, he changes the music to be more soft and soothing, and wins over a larger audience.
  • Driven to Suicide: After losing his casino, John Redcorn becomes so distraught that he writes a song about killing himself. When Hank requests his help in saving the Strickland Family Picnic, he awkwardly changes the lyrics to be about personal hygiene.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: John Redcorn nearly loses everything, but in the end, he ends up becoming a successful children's musician and even turns his land into a fun center of sorts.
  • Hollywood Midlife Crisis: John Redcorn implies that the reason he's so serious about his music career is that he's going through a midlife crisis caused by turning 40, thinking that he wasted his life being a masseur.
  • Yoko Oh No: Dale accuses Luanne of being one of these, simply because she's dating Lucky.
