Recap / King Of The Hill S 8 E 3 New Cowboy On The Block

Go To

When an ex-Dallas Cowboy moves onto the block, Hank and the guys are ecstatic. But their new neighbor soon proves to be a giant, obnoxious nightmare.

Tropes:

  • Berserk Button: Kahn pushes Big Willy's when he calls him a pig.
  • Crazy-Prepared: For once, Dale's excessive paranoia comes in handy: he's able to hide the picture proving Willy's assault in his wall safe, and when one of his cronies chases after him to try to get it back, Dale pulls on a chain that drops down a security mesh between him and the crony.
  • Enemy Mine: At first Hank was too starstruck of having a Dallas-Cowboys team member to take Kahn's complaints about Willy seriously. However, when Hank sees how much of a Jerkass Willy actually is, Hank and the guys team up with Kahn to come up with a way to get Willy out of the neighborhood.
  • Fat Bastard: Willy is a fat load, and a complete tool.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The Superbowl ring Willy loves to flash around proves his undoing, as him socking Hank leaves an imprint of it in his cheek and since Willy's got a criminal record and he's gotten too fat to remove the ring to hide or destroy it, he's unable to charm his way out of the situation. One picture of the bruise later, and Hank states he's got 2 weeks to get off the block or he'll show the picture to the cops.
  • Police Are Useless: The cops keep finding excuses to not deal with Willy’s obnoxiousness due to him being a famous football player. To the point they legitimately assume Willy's Blatant Lies that Hank tipped a car over onto his lawn himself. Keep in mind, it took Willy and four of his friends to do so, and Hank and his three friends just to push it across the street.
Hank: Why would I tip a car over on my own lawn?
Officer Brown: I don't know, it puzzles me. But Willie says he didn't do it, and we have no evidence that proves otherwise.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Famous!: Willie for the most part was able to avoid legal trouble since he used to play for the Dallas Cowboys and blocked a decisive kick. It's only after he punches Hank in the face and realizes there's photo evidence of the assault does he realize he's boned.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Willie was little more than a backup linebacker, whose sole career highlight is a blocked kick. Yet he (And strangely many others) acts like he's a big time legend.
  • Special Guest: Phil Hendrie as Big Willie Lane and Fred Willard as Officer Brown.
