Peggy nominates Bobby to carry the 2002 Winter Olympic Torch through Arlen, but Hank wins the honor — and bungles it.

Tropes:

  • Artistic License – Sports: It isn't uncommon for the Olympic Torch to get extinguished, accidentally or otherwise, so in the event it happens, there are copies to the flame that are transported with the relay or maintained in backup locations.
  • Formerly Fat: The torch bearer in McMaynerbury that Hank is supposed to pass it on to says that he used to weigh 500 pounds and getting into the athletic shape he's in now is the reason why he was chosen for the job.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: It's revealed that Hank thinks this is the reason why he broke his ankle right before a match-winning touchdown the one time he managed to get Arlen to the football finals: after he scored the decisive touchdown that got them to the said finals, he was so happy he did an elaborate victory dance and when he broke his ankle later, he thought it was God punishing him for his hubris and from them on, he made it a point to never get too excited about anything regardless of reason.
  • Loophole Abuse: After Hank intentionally puts out the torch right when he's about to pass it on because he dropped it in a puddle by accident and relit it himself afterwards and didn't want to hide the truth from people, Bobby remembers that Dale lit a cigarette from the torch earlier and uses it to relight it again.
