Bobby is branded a coward after breaking the tradition of the Landry Longhorn, which calls for any student dressed up like the Landry Longhorn to be beaten senseless by the rival team.
Tropes:
- The Atoner: At the very end, Bobby redeems himself by stealing the rival's armadillo mascot, and gets beaten up by both the football team and the band.
- Dirty Coward: Hank essentially calls this Bobby after hearing from Dale that Bobby failed to get the armadillo. Ironically, Dale was asked by Bobby for help stealing armadillo and getting out of a beating and Dale left him.
- No Sympathy: For being afraid getting beaten up, Bobby is shunned by nearly everyone, including his own father. The only exceptions being Connie, and maybe Peggy. Additionally, upon being informed Bobby Hill “failed” to get the armadillo and ran from another beating, Hank proceeds to call him a coward.
- Refusal of the Call: The plot of the episode, as Bobby is shunned by nearly everyone, even his own parents, when he ducks out of being beaten up by the rival team. He ultimately redeems himself in the end with Dale's help by stealing the rival's mascot and being beaten by them during the next game.
