Recap / Kim Possible S 3 E 7 Overdue/Roachie

Go To

An episode that consists of two 15-minute unrelated stories:

In "Overdue," Ron discovers that he has an overdue library book. Knowing only that he lost it in one of the lairs belonging to a villain Kim recently fought, he goes from lair to lair in search of it.

In "Roachie," gigantic monster cockroaches run rampant around Middleton. Kim has finally met her match thanks to her fear of giant bugs, so it's up to Ron and his new roach friend Roachie to stop the invasion.

"Overdue" contains the following tropes:

  • Absurdly Powerful School Jurisdiction: Miss Hatchet has a surprising amount of authority for a school librarian. Not only does she keep Kim in library lock-up for hours on end, but she's able to suspend Kim from the cheer squad until the book is returned.
  • Badass Boast: Miss Hatchet's response when Ron discreetly brings the overdue book back and makes it look like Hatchet misplaced it.
Miss Hatchet: Well, it appears you are free to go... for now. But there will come a day when you forget to return a book, and I'LL BE WAITING FOR YOU.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Ron accidentally drops a bowling ball that is heading for Drakken, who's contemplating his Doomsday Device. The machine's control panel is at his feet, making it look like the ball will hit it, but instead, it hits Drakken, and it sends him flying into his own machine.
  • Continuity Nod: Ron complaining about how no one seems to understand his hatred for haggis calls back to him constantly being forced to eat it in "A Sitch in Time".
  • The Dreaded: Miss Hatchet's feared by nearly everyone, and her oncoming arrival to the the gym in search of Kim elicits horrified reactions from every person in her path like she was all four horsemen of the apocalypse.
  • Epic Fail: Drakken failed to activate his Centrifugal Oscillator before because he didn't know it needed batteries, even though he either designed it himself or knew enough to steal it.
  • Foreign Queasine: Ron and Rufus mistake Duff Killigan's haggis for a poison gas. Even worse, Killigan refuses to let anyone turn down his grandma's recipe.
Ron: How many times is someone going to feed me sheep's lungs cooked in its own stomach before they get that I don't like it?!
  • Green Thumb: While at Dementor's lair, Ron discovered he had developed an army of Man Eating Plants. Somehow, he managed to thwart him.
  • I Need to Go Iron My Dog: When Kim called him while he was searching for the book, Ron made the excuse to get off the phone by saying his dad was locked in the garage and needed to help him before he ran out of clothes.
  • Noodle Incident: Based on Drakken and Shego's conversation, Drakken had tried to use his Centrifugal Oscillator twice before.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Monkey Fist possessed a text which was able to summon phantom monkeys.
  • Scary Librarian: Miss Hatchet. Even after the book was returned, she just laughs manically.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: It turns out that the book was in Ron's backpack the entire time.
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: Ron hilariously makes this objection (completely without provocation too).
    Shego: Where's Possible?
    Ron: SHE'S NOT MY GIRLFRIEND!
Shego: Whoah, whoah, whoah! Never said she was. *smirks*
    Ron [uncomfortable]: Oooooh...sss-awkwaaard...note .
  • Spanner in the Works: Ron messes up some of the schemes the villains are trying that day even though he's just looking for the book.
  • Villains Out Shopping: While Drakken, Dementor, and Monkey Fist were concocting plans to Take Over the World when Ron dropped in on them, Killigan was making himself lunch. Unfortunately, when he found Ron in his castle, he insisted that Ron stay to join him for haggis.

"Roachie" contains the following tropes:

  • Absurd Phobia: At the beginning of the episode, Kim chides Ron for being scared of bugs. When Team Possible encounters the giant roaches, Kim is overcome by fear even as Ron befriends one of the creatures (which are completely harmless if left to their own devices, and even when under the control of the story's villain are a minor threat compared to other hazards Kim takes in stride).
  • All Animals Are Dogs: Roachie crawls into Ron's lap and tries to "lick" his face. Ron even compares him to a puppy.
  • Cower Power: Kim hides behind Ron when confronted by one of the large mutant roaches.
  • Death by Irony: One of the giant roaches attempted to inflict one on Ron by trying to step on him. Ron couldn't help but lampshade it.
  • Dissimile: Ron compares the big roaches to shiny puppies with shells—Kim points out that puppies don't have shells.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Ron when one of the giant roaches sneaks up behind him and taps him on the shoulder and he realizes what's been doing the mandible-clicking sounds.
    • Chester Yapsby when Kim knocks the roflax out of his hands, resulting in him losing control over the mutant roaches and Roachie getting them to start attacking him instead.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Kim being utterly terrified of the giant cockroaches leads her to do some fairly uncharacteristic things such as cowering behind Ron and suggesting that he deal with the roaches alone while she runs off.
  • The Runt at the End: Roachie was not only the smallest from Dr. Yapsby's cockroach swarm, he was the last in showing up, as he couldn't keep pace.
  • Sand In My Eyes: When Kim started tearing up when Ron and Roachie said good-bye, she told Rufus it was because of the wind coming off the dump.
  • Scared of What's Behind You: Kim yells "Gah!" when she sees one of the giant roaches sneak up behind Ron. Ron, who had his eyes shut, mistakes it for her trying his bug-speak and tries to correct her and doesn't realize it was one of the roaches until it taps his shoulder.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Kim runs off to a nearby rooftop while leaving Ron to try to talk to the roaches.
  • Security Cling: Ron clings onto Kim's leg when the mutant roaches first appear, though he lets go when he realizes he's not actually afraid of them—since the so called "giant" roaches are about 3 feet long.
Ron: Dude, you call those giant?
Yapsby: They're pretty big for cockroaches!
    Ron: Eh, not really.
Yapsby: Ah, what do you know?! I have a world to conquer!
  • Squick: In-Universe, Kim is disgusted by Roachie crawling on Ron. And when Roachie licks her face, she instantly faints.
  • Suddenly Fluent in Gibberish: Ron befriends a giant cockroach and soon begins having full conversations with it, imitating its clicking-noise speech.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?:
    • Ron's phobia of regular-sized bugs is again front-and-center.
    • Kim's extreme fear of Big Creepy-Crawlies is portrayed for the first time, as she's so traumatized by simply the thought of them that even the friendly Roachie disgusts her.
