Darius, Kenji and Yaz pursue a compsognathus that stole their compass to some mysterious ruins which are home to a familiar threat while Brooklyn and Sammy discover a secret project that Dr. Henry Wu was working on which poses a new danger to the campers and the island.
- Apocalyptic Log: Brooklyn and Sammy discover Wu’s laptop which contains his personal logs on his creation of the Scorpius Rex.
- Androcles' Lion: After Darius, Kenji, and Yaz lift the overturned jeep off of Blue, saving her from being eaten by Compies, she lets them flee without chasing them.
- Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: The Compies tend to collect shiny things for their nests, and can be distracted by throwing coins at them.
- Attractiveness Discrimination: According to Dr. Wu, this was the main reason Masrani decided the Scorpios rex was a failure – not for its unpredictability, difficulty to contain, venomous spikes, or ill health, but because it was too ugly to be a good attraction.
- Brick Joke: Kenji tries getting a bag of chips out of a decades-old vending machine in the visitor center, but it’s not even plugged in, and Kenji loses his quarter. Near the end of the episode, Kenji hammers on the machine to get a bunch of quarters, and the chip bag he’d been hoping for falls out.
- Internal Reveal: The audience has been shown multiple times that whatever E750 is, it's escaped and is causing trouble across the island. At the end of the episode, after learning about the Scorpios rex, Brooklynn and Sammy learn the same thing when they see the shattered cryogenic unit.
- It Can Think: Blue quickly proves much sharper than any other dinosaur the campers have met thus far. At one point, she kills a Compy and noisily leaves the room to draw the campers out of hiding… then silently doubles back.
- MacGuffin: The stolen compass, which sends Darius, Kenji, and Yaz chasing a Compy into the old Visitor’s Center.
- Mythology Gag: Before entering the Jurassic Park visitor center, Yaz mentions she heard it was cursed – that the park’s founder was injured and eaten alive by Compies there. This is how John Hammond died in the original book. Darius corrects her that Hammond died of natural causes, and asks where she heard that story. Yaz replies she read it somewhere.
- After Blue tricks and corners them, Kenji whispers "Clever guy…" Darius has to correct him.
- Raptor Attack: Darius, Yaz and Kenji come across the ruins of the old Jurassic park visitor center, inside they discover that Blue the Velociraptor is nesting there and when she spots them, she proceeds to chase them out.
- Reclaimed by Nature: As was seen in Jurassic World, the old Jurassic Park visitor center has long been reclaimed by the surrounding jungle since 1993.
- Saved by Canon: Despite being pinned under a jeep and cornered by Compies while chasing Darius, Yaz, and Kenji, Blue is alive in Fallen Kingdom several years later, so viewers can safely assume she’ll get out unharmed.
- Skewed Priorities: Sammy has a pretty good idea where the E750 project is, but Brooklynn insists on using as long a searching process as possible, instinctively wanting to make it into a "Brooklynn unboxes the E750" video. Sammy eventually loses her patience and stomps off.
- Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: The kids patch the hole in the yacht with sealant and a lunch tray… but they have to wait 48 hours for it to set properly, meaning they can’t leave immediately.
