After watching a reality show featuring contestants challenged to survive in scary forests, Johnny challenges Dukey and his sisters to survive the night in a spooky forest, supplied by Susan and Mary using a device to make their backyard into one. However, none of the four expected a frightening looking man wielding a weed-wacker to be part of the dare.

Tropes:

  • Bears Are Bad News: Once the sisters crank the device up enough to make the forest truly scary, the first thing that attacks Johnny and Dukey is a bear. Johnny gets it to back off by giving him their lunch/dinner via picnic basket.
  • Bee Afraid: When Susan and Mary try to get the remote from the bear, a convenient beehive drops down to distract it. However, the two realize if there's a hive, bees usually follow and (sure enough) a swarm shows up to attack them.
  • Big Damn Heroes: At one point, the group get stuck in a quicksand pit and lose the remote to the device to undo the forest. Likewise, they're unable to get their mom to help them since she's asleep with a noise machine cancelling out their yells. Luckily for them, Gil comes swinging in via vine to save them.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Hugh is weed-wacking at night because he feels if he waits, the weeds will grow too big and eat his family.
  • Is That the Best You Can Do?: Johnny yells this to his sisters when their second attempt with the forest-growing device doesn't impress him.
  • Mistaken for Murderer: The Test siblings and Dukey mistake Hugh for one due to him wearing a bulky, protective gardening suit and wielding a weed wacker.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Susan and Mary when they see the Weed-Wacker Man and think the other put it in as part of the forest creation, only for both to realize neither of them did.
    • At the end, the Test siblings and Dukey get this this when Lila tells them their father was weed-wacking all night, leading them realize he was the masked weed-wacker all along and they just catapulted him into the air. Hugh promptly shows up right after to tell them they're in trouble.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl:
    • Dukey is prone to doing this, as Johnny shows him footage on his phone of the dog getting easily spooked.
    • After Lila tells the siblings what their father was doing, Susan notes that she thought his scream sounded familiar.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Trap-Door Fail: When Johnny and Dukey attempt to trap Hugh/Weed-Wacker Man, they use a pit to do so. Hugh walks over it without incident, to which the pair complain about making their sides too thick and jumping up and down on the sticks. Unsurprisingly, they fall through.
