Recap / Jackie Chan Adventures S 3 E 2 The Powers Unleashed

Go To

Valmont's enforcers and Daolon Wong simultaneously go to Section 13 to get the talismans. Jackie decides to destroy the talismans with a laser, but by doing so causes their powers to be unleashed and seek out new hosts; namely the 12 noble animals of the Chinese zodiac from which the powers originated. So, the hunt for the talismans begins all over again. Because Uncle imprisons Wong's Dark Chi Warriors, Daolon Wong turns the Enforcers into his new Dark Chi Warriors. The Chans quickly locate the first animal nearby, a dog hosting the power of Immortality, which Jade names Scruffy. After successfully stopping Wong and getting Scruffy back to Section 13, Uncle creates an anti-Dark Chi barrier so the noble animals, the rest of which are still to be found, can remain safe from Wong inside the vault until new vessels can be created to hold the powers.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Achievements in Ignorance: Scruffy had no idea that he had immortality when he stood up to Daolon Wong and got incinerated for it.
  • Badass Adorable: Scruffy is a cute little dog with the power of immortality, so when Daolon Wong blasts him, he doesn't get a scratch on him. And the look on his face screams "you can't get rid of me that easily!"
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • Amid a storm, Valmont dramatically discusses how he is finally rid of Shendu and that the Dark Hand is back in action. Then we see he's sitting in the window of a crummy diner and having dinner with the Enforcers.
    • The location of the Noble Dog is at a dog show, but it turns out it's none of the dogs inside the dog show...it's the scruffy little pup outside of it.
  • Censor Shadow: During the last part of the Enforcers' Transformation Sequence into Dark Chi Warriors, all of Ratso's clothes are ripped off, but fortunately for him, some friendly shadows offer him cover.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Jackie asks Uncle which dog they need to take from the dog show, Uncle tells him the most noble one, even asking if he was paying attention. It never occurs to him that he was asking which dog was the noble one.
  • Destroy the Villain's Weapon: Though Shendu's gone, his talismans are sought out by the Dark Hand and Daolon Wong to be used for their own nefarious purposes. Jackie decides destroying the talismans will put a stop to their abuse, only to discover their powers aren't easy to get rid off.
  • Dog Walks You: To save them from Daolon Wong, Jackie swipes all the dogs from the dog show. Unfortunately, when they see a fresbe, they all run after it, dragging Jackie with them.
Jackie: Bad dogs! Bad dogs! Bad dogs! Bad dogs! Bad dogs!"
  • Evil Versus Evil: The Enforcers end up in a struggle with Daolon Wong and his dark warriors when both break into Section 13 simultaneously.
  • Evolving Credits: The scrolling screen with the seven Demon Sorcerers and the Talismans has been replaced with the original Talisman screen from Season 1 (the demon screen will return for the final season). The Dark Hand screen also now is a still screen with just the Enforcers and no Valmont, and they turn into the Dark Chi Warriors and Daolon Wong comes down in front of them. The Pan'Ku box in the "tossing" screen has also had the original Talisman return to Jade's hand, and the three Enforcers take Hak Foo's place in the "Punch-out" scene.
  • Forgot About His Powers: After marveling over their new abilities, the Enforcers immediately quake in their boots upon seeing Tohru. It takes Daolon Wong giving them their weapons for them to try fighting.
  • Got Volunteered: Finn, Ratso and Chow are unwillingly recruited by Daolon Wong to become his new dark warriors.
  • Here We Go Again!: Jade sums it up that by destroying the talismans, Jackie started the Gotta Catch 'Em All quest all over again. She's ecstatic about it. Jackie, not so much.
  • Hope Spot: After the talismans explode, Jackie thinks that it's finally over at last. Uncle gives him a Dope Slap and fully explains what happened.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: The once powerful Dark Hand are now shadows of their former selves, as they are now broke, due the constant traveling to find the talismans and free the demon sorcerers throughout the previous two seasons.
  • It Only Works Once: Upon encountering the Enforcer Dark Chi Warriors, Jackie asks if they can be imprisoned like the other warriors. Uncle comments there was only one mystic urn and it was filled.
  • Kick the Dog: Just to prove how much Daolon Wong is evil, he was going to kill Scruffy just for standing up to him. Thank goodness Scruffy was immortal.
  • MacGuffin Super-Person: Uncle informs Jackie that destroying the Talismans only destroyed their vessels. The energies possessing from them are already seeking out new hosts; in this case, animals.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Jackie shouts this when he realized that destroying the talismans was not a good idea.
  • Needle in a Stack of Needles: The dog that received the Immortality powers happens to be at a dog show, where there are naturally lots of dogs. Wong decides to Cutting the Knot by killing all the dogs, since only the immortal one would survive that. Fortunately, the heroes interfere before he gets the chance.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: In trying to keep Daolon Wong from claiming all the talismans, Jackie tries to destroy them with a laser. Though Jackie does destroy the physical constructs, Uncle explains the powers can't be destroyed and will instead move about the world looking for a suitable animal host.
  • No MacGuffin, No Winner: What Jackie attempts when he destroys the talismans, so that no one can ever again use their powers. Too bad for him it doesn't work, as their powers have now sought new (living) hosts.
  • Offscreen Villain Dark Matter: Averted. The constant traveling to find the Talismans and free the Demon Sorcerers, and repeated failures, has completely depleted the Dark Hand's fortune.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Uncle imprisons Wong's dark chi warriors in a mystic urn, forcing Wong to recruit the Enforcers.
  • Shockingly Expensive Bill: Valmont gets one. The answer? Let Finn, Ratso, and Chow pay for their food.
    The Enforcers: Hey!
    Valmont: What? I didn't eat.
  • Understatement: Upon seeing the new and improved Enforcers, Uncle remarks there's something different about them.
