Recap / Jack of All Trades S1E9 "Croque for a Day"

Go To

Napoleon Bonaparte sends an inspector to scrutinize Governor Croque, and if he fails, he'll replace him with a new, more competent Governor. To avoid that little setback, Jack pretends to be Croque.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Better the Devil You Know: The reason why Jack and Emilia help Governor Croque keep his job.
  • Brainless Beauty: One of the Resistance members seems to believe that the Daring Dragoon is "like smart and stuff."
Emilia: And if the Dragoon told you a stork delivered you to your parents one fine morning, you'd believe that as well I suppose.
Resistance Fighter: Thank goodness for the stork.
  • Evil Is Hammy: The Inspector shouts all of his lines.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Jack gives a Lame Pun Reaction to all of Emilia's one-liners during her stint as the Daring Dragoon.
  • Kill the Poor: The episode starts with the reveal that Napoleon is imposing a "Poverty Tax", deliberately making it too expensive to be poor.
  • Shout-Out: Emilia (as the Daring Dragoon) says "silly Ribbit, tricks are for kids."
  • Stripperiffic: The Daughters of the Dragoon all wear sexy versions of the Daring Dragoon's outfit.
  • Swapped Roles: Normally, Jack solves all his problems with his fists while Emilia tries to use knowledge and diplomacy. Here, Jack tries to use his temporary authority as Governor to use the law to help people while Emilia starts thinking of the more direct approach, taking on the Daring Dragoon-persona during the climax.
