Tropes

  • All for Nothing: Everything Dib goes through to appease Mortos in this episode, and ultimately Mortos grants someone else's wish, as a random person walking by thinks aloud that he wants ice cream before Dib can use Mortos against Zim.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Technically speaking. After all, while Dib temporarily interrupts Zim's plan to spread mutant vermin throughout the city, in the end Zim just walks away, box of vermin still in tow.
  • Berserk Button: Calling Mortos a mooch sends him into an Unstoppable Rage.
  • Butt-Monkey: Dib spends the whole episode letting Mortos mooch off of him, and not only is it All for Nothing, but the episode ends with him getting arrested for Mortos' crime of bothering the puppies in the pet store.
  • Hulk Speak: Mortos talks like this.
  • I'll Never Tell You What I'm Telling You!:
Zim: I'm infecting this city with genetically enhanced vermin, but you'll never know.
    Dib: You just told me.
    Zim: YOU'RE LYING!!!
  • Improbable Weapon User: At Zim's command, GIR attacks Dib by shooting a sandwich out of his head, which hits Dib hard enough to knock him through a wall.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When Mortos is Info Dumping his origins and mentions the planetary alignment letting him walk free for one day, he notes "important plot point this is".
  • Serious Business: Dib gets arrested by a full SWAT team for "bothering puppies" (which Mortos had actually done, not him).
  • That Poor Cat: When Zim throws a "mutant vermin" inside a house, a crash is heard and a cat is heard screeching.
  • Villains Out Shopping: Mortos is a powerful demonic being, free to walk the Earth for the first time in a thousand years, and what does he do? Eat fast food, go clothes shopping, attend a carnival, hit on a Goth girl at said carnival, and look at animals in a pet store.
  • When the Planets Align: Mortos is freed from "the place beneath the Overworld" one day every thousand years when three planets line up perfectly.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: Mortos can drain people's souls. Dib tries to get him to do this to Zim, but things don't work out for that.
