Recap / I Carly S 04 Ep 17 I Still Psycho

Go To

iStill Psycho is the 17th episode in the 4th season of iCarly.

Nora Dershlit is released from prison, and Carly, Sam, Freddie and Gibby attend her welcome home party to celebrate her potential reform, but it turns out to be too good to be true and she vows revenge on them for "ruining" her sixteenth birthday. And this time she isn't alone — Nora's parents turn out to be psychopaths like their daughter, and everyone must find a way to escape.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Benson finds out T-Bo was only pretending to be smooth, and kicks him out of the Benson's apartment.

Tropes:

  • Big Damn Heroes: Mrs. Benson and T-Bo smashing through the Dershlit's door on her motorcycle and rescuing the iCarlys.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The shock pen that Spencer had back in "iGet Pranky" is revealed to have been borrowed from Sam. She uses this to shock Freddie's head, which activates the tracking chip in his head and lets his mother know that the Dershlit family is keeping the iCarlys hostage.
  • Foreshadowing: There are some vague hints that Nora's parents are psychopaths just like their daughter:
    • Mrs. Dershlit claiming she invited all of Nora's classmates from her school when really she didn't.
    • Mr. Dershlit ditching the Norwegian supper for an overnight camping trip.
    • Mrs. Dershlit reminding Nora to forget her clown having an aneurysm from her 16th birthday.
    • Mrs. Dershlit smugly obeying Nora to take Spencer to the bathroom, followed by her showing Spencer downstairs to the basement, where the wheel is.
  • Get Out!: T-Bo tells Mrs. Benson than she can either accept him as he is, or tell him to get out. She immediately chooses the latter, much to his offense.
  • Given Name Reveal: Gibby's real name is revealed to be Orenthal Gibson.
  • Happy Birthday to You!: Nora and her mom sing their own take as "Nora's a jolly good person".
  • Hates Being Touched: After Mrs. Benson is flattered that T-Bo helped her save the children and decides to keep her as their roommate, he is overjoyed and goes in for a hug. A shocked Mrs. Benson quickly tells him to stop.
  • Internal Reveal: T-Bo has been living as a roommate in Freddie and his mother's apartment, and while doing so, he pretends to be a civilized gentleman in order for Mrs. Benson to think that he's a good roommate. But then she comes home just when she thinks she's gone and sees him for what he truly is.
  • Involuntary Dance: Nora forces the iCarlys to dance after she turns on the music from her original birthday.
  • Ironic Echo: Nora and her family's "Forever and ever and ever" is repeated by the iCarlys when they announce she's going back to prison along with them.
  • It Runs in the Family: Nora's parents turn out to be just as insane as she is.
  • Liar Revealed: When Mrs. Benson catches T-Bo acting like his true self and forces him to let the truth out, she is angry not only because she realizes that her roommate is not someone she's comfortable with, but also because she been lied to so much.
  • Let's Get Dangerous!: Mrs. Benson and T-Bo rescue the iCarly gang from the Dershlits when the two learn they are in danger. Mrs. Benson even uses fencing skills to fight the Dershlits.
  • Mama Bear: Mrs. Benson goes One-Woman Army on her son and his friends' captors.
  • Never My Fault: Nora blames the iCarly gang for ruining her sixteenth birthday even though her keeping them prisoner is what caused her to be sent to prison.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • The iCarlys all have this when they realize Mrs. Dershlit is a psychopath just like Nora. They get it again when Mr. Dershlit turns out to be one as well.
    • Carly has this reaction in the ending when she realizes that they left Gibby stuck to the Dershlit residence chimney.
  • "Open!" Says Me: Mrs. Benson and T-Bo literally bust the Dershlet's door to bits on her motorcycle, just in time to save the iCarlys from their wrath.
  • Police Are Useless: Zig-Zagged; although they release Nora, who is still very much insane and wants revenge, they are quick to re-arrest her and her parents after the kidnapping is foiled.
  • Properly Paranoid: Carly is against the idea of her, Sam, Freddie, and Gibby testifying to have Nora released from prison after what Nora did to them, and she is later proven right about how it was not a good idea after Nora and her parents hold them hostage a second time.
  • Punctuated! For! Emphasis!:
Carly: Well, it's not really your birthday.
Nora: IT IS TOO! WHETHER IT'S TECHNICALLY MY BIRTHDAY OR NOT, WE'RE ALL GOING TO PRETEND IT'S MY! ACTUAL!! BIRTHDAY!!!
  • Revenge: Nora didn't take being sent to prison for kidnapping the iCarlys very well, as she still blames them for ruining her sixteenth birthday and is determined to undo the damage by recreating it "forever and ever and ever".
  • Sequel Episode: To "iPsycho".
  • Something We Forgot: Played with regarding Gibby, as the characters forget about him after they're rescued, only for Carly to wake up that night remembering him and the scene to shift over to him still stuck in the chimney from earlier as it rains.
  • Stuck in a Chimney: Gibby attempts to escape the Dershlit residence by climbing up the chimney, but realizes he can't get his arms free after he has already poked his head out the top and is thus stuck. He's still stuck there by the end of episode, and some boys who threw balls at his head earlier do it again despite it pouring rain by this point.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Leaving aside not hearing Gibby yell for help after getting stuck in the Dershlits' fireplace, the neighbors seemingly don't know, or care, that the iCarly crew are being held captive by a bunch of psychopaths.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Whether or not the dancer brought in by the Dershlits was aware of them being crazy psychos, or if he too was kidnapped or merely hired by them.
