Lily and Marshall struggle when searching for a nanny for baby Marvin, while Barney uses them as a means of having sex. Meanwhile Robin and Ted fight about the seriousness of their relationships.

- Freeze-Frame Bonus: The badge number on Barney's fake cop uniform is 9669.
- Heel Realization: Barney recognizes he screwed up and pays Mrs. Buckminster's salary so Marshall and Lily can have a nanny.
- Ironic Nursery Tune: The scene of Barney being attacked by the nannies he seduced is set to "Pop Goes The Weasel".
- Laser-Guided Karma: Barney using the same nanny site to seduce women results in the nannies finding out about his lies and beating him up.
- Last-Second Word Swap: Lily almost calls Barney a "Son of a bitch", but remebering that she is holding her infant son, she changes the word (see Pig Latin below) to avoid swearing.
- Pig Latin: Barney says "Ix-nay on the eal-ray ame-nay," when Lily and Marshall confront him about stealing away their potential babysitter. Shortly after, Lily says "You son of a itch-bay!"
- Start of Darkness: Mickey was a terrible father. After Lily started pre-school. Before that, he was a perfect, devoted stay at home dad. Then he had no idea what he would do not if he wasn't spending all day with her and developed a gambling addiction that turned him into the Disappeared Dad she remembers.
