Recap / Hell Girl S 3 E 20 The Hell Professor Vs Hell Girl

Go To

After awaking in Tsugumi’s health office, Yuzuki asks what Tsugumi knows about Ai Enma but Tsugumi refuses to give Yuzuki a clear answer. Later, Yamawaro and Kikuri approach a large mansion belonging to a client but are unable to enter due to an encircling barrier. At night, the owner of that mansion, Shogo Mizorogi, accesses the Hell Link website and types Tsugumi's name in. Each sensing the request, Yuzuki, Ai, and Tsugumi make their ways towards the mansion. Once they gather, he explains that he initially gained interest in Hell after his mother used Ai's services to send his father to Hell. After a great deal of research on Hell, he eventually yearned to meet Ai. Learning that she had once more regained her body, he nurtured a grudge against Tsugumi through hypnosis in order to meet her. Ai agrees to give him Ichimokuren as a doll, however just before Shogo can completely pull off the string, he is instead sent to Hell by his assistant Kikyo using Yamawaro; he is exacting the grudge that the many children bore whom Shogo treated cruelly for the sake of his research.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Bittersweet Ending: Still manages to be bittersweet despite no one innocent being sent to Hell in the end. The assistant sends Shogo to Hell just before he can damn Tsugumi, inadvertently saving her in the process, but Tsugumi is still mentally broken by her experiences and loneliness, and Yuzuki is told that she cannot fight her fate of becoming the next Hell Girl.
  • The Bus Came Back: While she made brief cameos in a few of the previous episodes with her identity obscured, Tsugumi Shibata makes her first real return in this episode.
  • Did You Think I Can't Feel?: Yuzuki asks Ai whether she even considers the people she sends to Hell are deserving of their fates, to which Ai responds "Do you think I didn't think about it?"
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Ai's companions are still attached to a now-adult Tsugumi due to their unique connection to her and are distraught when they find that a mysterious man intends to send her to Hell in spite of her innocence.
  • The Ghost: Allusions to Tsugumi's father Hajime are made throughout the episode, though it's unclear where he is or what became of him.
  • Graceful Loser: Shogo is sent to Hell by his assistant, but takes this loss with grace since he believes that he will be reunited with his mother in the afterlife.
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: Tsumugi had been a nurse at the same school Yuzuki is attending and Ai's companions are pretending to be teachers in since episode 1, but none of Ai's companions noticed her.
  • Wham Shot: The episode opens with a mysterious man typing Tsugumi's name into the Hell Correspondence.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Yamawaro and Kikuri disappear from the plot halfway through the episode after being sent to investigate Shogo's mansion. They show up again toward the episodes ending, when it's revealed that Shogo's assistant contacted the Hell Correspondence and sent Shogo to Hell.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Shogo planned to send innocent children to Hell for the sake of his experiments.
