Hotaru looks for her brother, who is nowhere to be found. But she finds the book about Hell Girl, and runs away with Takuma. Takuma and Hotaru are hiding together, but Kikuri helps the mob find them. The mob tries to drown them, but Detective Meshiai finds them and rescues them. While they are driving away from the town, Detective Meshiai disappears: Mr. Hasue has used the Hell Link to send him to hell. The car they are in crashes, but Takuma and Hotaru walk away uninjured. While walking along the road, Hotaru uses Detective Meshiai's laptop computer to access Hell Link and types in Takuma's name.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Cool Big Sis: Hotaru acts like one to Takuma, up until the ending. He even calls her "Big sis" instead of by her name.
  • Downer Ending: Detective Meshiai, Nice Guy, and perhaps the only sane adult left in Lovely Hills, is sent to Hell by the mob after he foils their plan to kill Takuma and Hotaru. Despaired by the fact that her brother is gone forever and blaming Takuma for it, Hotaru accesses the Hell Correspondence and enters Takuma's name.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: Detective Meshiai by the end of the episode, though, unlike previous cases, the viewers don't get to see him being ferried by Ai.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: Hotaru, who had previously been helping Takuma and promised to protect him, betrays Takuma after she crosses her Despair Event Horizon.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Ai expresses disapproval at Kikuri revealing Takuma and Hotaru's hiding place to the mob. Her crew is also disgusted at the mob's eagerness to hurt two children.
  • Hope Spot: Detective Meshiai rescues Hotaru and Takuma from the hate mob, driving them home and reassuring them that everything will be alright from now on. Then he gets sent to Hell.
  • Magic A Is Magic A: Inverted. While previous episodes established that the Hell Correspondence can only be used against someone you have a grudge against, there is no indication that Hasue had anything personal against Detective Meshiai and in general was reluctant to go along with what the mob was doing when he wasn't being threatened. Despite this, he's able to enter Detective Meshiai's name into the Hell Correspondence and send him to Hell with no issues.
  • Never My Fault: The mob claims that doing away with Takuma and Hotaru will make their lives return to normal, completely disregarding the fact that the town is only in its current state because of their actions.
  • No Good Deed Goes Unpunished: After spending several episodes miraculously avoiding being sent to Hell by the trigger-happy citizens of Lovely Hills, Detective Meshiai loses his plot armor and is unceremoniously sent to Hell for rescuing Hotaru and Takuma from the mob.
  • Sacrificial Lion: Detective Meshiai is sent to Hell after playing a major role in the past 4 episodes.
  • Tempting Fate: Detective Meshiai reassuring Takuma and Hotaru that everything will be okay from then on. He gets sent to Hell almost immediately after.
  • Too Dumb to Live: While there wasn't much he could have done otherwise when the time was running out for his sister and Takuma, Detective Meshiai could have possibly avoided a Hell sentence by doing more than just warning the mob with the gun he was holding. He also made the mistake of thinking they were sane enough to leave him alone after he scared them off.
  • Wham Shot: The empty driver's seat of Detective Meshiai's car, signaling that he's just been sent to Hell.
  • Would Hurt a Child: The mob has no qualms against murdering Takuma and Hotaru, who are implied to be 12 and 15, respectively.
