Hinagiku's birthday (March 3rd) is coming up, so Hayate is out shopping for a birthday present. Then, misadventure strikes when Sakuya idly breaks the head off of one of Isumi's Hina dolls. It turns out to be a cursed Hina doll, which forces the unluckiest person in the surrounding area—that is, Hayate—to crossdress against their will. In order to break the curse, he must defeat Hinagiku in a duel by the end of the Hina Festival. Hinagiku misinterprets this intention to have a mock duel in which she lets him win as a challenge to an actual duel to settle the one that wasn't properly resolved from the Freestyle Marathon. Before they can have this duel, Hayate runs into someone who thinks he really is a girl, and overreacts when corrected on it, kidnapping Nagi to draw him out. After Hayate saves her, she manages to lift the curse through pure intimidation, rendering the duel unnecessary.
