Recap / Harley Quinn 2019 S 3 E 7 Another Sharkley Adventure

Go To

Harley infiltrates a gala on a mission to confront Frank's captor... only to be entangled in another evil plot.

Tropes:

  • Abdicate the Throne: King Shark would ordinarily take the throne as the eldest sibling, but he passes it to his brother because he lives on land. He comes to regret that when his brother tries to sell their kingdom to Ocean Master.
  • Artistic License – History: Catwoman's Picasso is actually not a Picasso painting, but an urn of Picasso's ashes. In real life, Picasso was actually buried, not cremated.
  • Asshole Victim: Harley murders the Mad Hatter just to contradict Batgirl, as opposed to doing so because he's creepy, perverted, and a murderer himself.
  • Bag of Kidnapping: Harley runs out of duct tape while kidnapping Bruce Wayne, so she settles for a hefty duffel bag to get him back to Selina's apartment.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Catwoman asks Harley not to make a scene at the hotel she is going to kidnap Bruce from, because it's a place she likes to steal from and she doesn't want them tightening security. She claims it's where she got her Picasso. The camera pans, and instead of one of his paintings, it's actually an urn with his ashes.
  • Bestiality Is Depraved: The Ratcatcher appears on Tawny's talk show making out with a rat.
  • Brick Joke:
    • When Selina calls Harley, she asks if Harley stole her tiara, which Harley dodges. By the end, it's revealed Harley did steal it so she could trick Bruce Wayne into thinking Selina came to the party.
    • When Harley is packing up for her caper, she asks if it'll be a one-roll or two-roll of duct tape caper and chooses two. Partway through, she chucks one at the brain-controlling hat placed on Batgirl to knock it off her. When she goes to bind Bruce, she finds out that, yes, this was a two-roll caper.
  • Conscience Makes You Go Back: Harley talks herself into rescuing Batgirl after trying to ditch her.
  • The Dutiful Son: King's brother Prince stayed behind to care for their kingdom and ailing, incontinent father. Despite being the firstborn, King was completely in favor of Prince becoming the new ruler. That is, until Prince revealed he was done being the Responsible Sibling and planning to sell their homeland to Ocean Master.
  • Grievous Bottley Harm: King Shark and his brother smash each other with bottles numerous times during their brawl.
  • I Have to Iron My Dog: Harley attempts to recruit people to join her in her kidnapping adventure, but everyone can't - Ivy's sick, Shark's going back to his kingdom, Clayface is still disguised as Billy Bob Thorton and there's no way she's recruiting Catwoman to kidnap her ex.
  • Improvised Weapon: King Shark ultimately kills his brother with Ocean Master's spiked helmet.
  • Killed Off for Real: The Mad Hatter, thanks to Harley beating his face in with her baseball bat.
  • The Man in the Mirror Talks Back: Harley's conscience takes the form of Harleen Quinzel talking to her in a reflective surface.
  • Mugged for Disguise: Harley attacks an elderly harpist and takes her gown to get into the hotel. Based on the sounds and length of the fight, and Harley's reaction afterwards, she put up more of a fight than her age would indicate.
Harley: (out of breath) Still takes her vitamins!
  • Mythology Gag: The elderly musician Harley mugs looks almost exactly like the elderly version of Harley herself from Return of the Joker. Appropriately, she puts up a good fight.
  • Non-Indicative Title: Harley and King Shark aren't actually together for most of this episode.
  • Performer Guise: Harley infiltrates Bruce's gala by beating up a harpist and taking her harp and clothes. She doesn't, however, bother to cover her hair, face and arms, leaving many passersby to fail a spot check.
  • The Resenter: Despite King and Prince getting along well, Prince clearly harbored ill will about being left behind to tend to their homeland and dying father alone. That, and King eating their other 13 brothers.
  • Revisiting the Roots: For the first time in the series, Ivy (while ill and asleep) wears Garden Garment clothing like she traditionally does in the comics.
  • There Was a Door: King Shark dramatically bursts through a wall to stop his brother from signing away the kingdom. His brother points out there's a door right next to the booth.
  • Title Drop: When Harley goes to recruit King Shark to kidnap Bruce Wayne, she mentions how it'll be "another Sharkley adventure".
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: The Mad Hatter makes his appearance in this episode only to be impulsively beaten to death by Harley at the end.
  • Who Names Their Kid "Dude"?: While debating with her Doctor Quinzel inner-self on whether to save Batgirl, both sides of Harley agree that Jervis is a lousy name.
  • Worf Had the Flu:
    • Because Selina broke up with him, Bruce/Batman has gotten sickly depressed and then walking drunk, making it easy for Harley to kidnap and carry him back in a sack.
    • In the meantime, Ivy is feeling actually sick from connecting with the Green too much, so Harley works this one alone.
