Mr. Lopart Sails Away

Mr. Lopart has recently purchased an old sailboat, and invites Manny and the tools to go boating on Lake Nochanailin with him. Him being Mr. Lopart, disaster is guaranteed to ensue- and, sure enough, the group soon finds them stranded in the middle of the lake, with the boat’s mast snapped off at its base.

”Mr. Lopart Sails Away” includes examples of the following:

  • Absurd Phobia: Apparently, Rusty is afraid of seagulls, although he ends up getting over it.
  • Accordion to Most Sailors: The episode’s soundtrack includes quite a lot of accordion music.
  • Animal Sweet on Object: At one point, a seagull appears to fall in love with the duck float that the toolbox is in (It Makes Sense in Context), although later it seems to realize its mistake, and its affection for the float becomes a loyalty to Rusty (who was the float’s sole occupant for most of the episode).
  • Character Action Title: Describes Mr. Lopart taking Manny and the tools on a sailing trip, and nearly getting them stranded in Lake Nochanailin.
  • Comically Missing the Point:
Mr. Lopart (talking about his sailboat): ... all that’s left to do is to give her a name.
Pat It already has a name. It’s called “a sailboat”.
  • Continuity Nod: This isn’t the first episode where characters get stranded on a boat in the middle of Lake Nochanailin without any means of propulsion.
  • Debating Names: At the beginning of the episode, Mr. Lopart can’t decide what to call his new sailboat- he’s stuck between the “Sweet Cruiser” or the “Good Ship Candy Corn”. At the end of the episode, he decides to call it the “Friend-Ship”.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: One happens after Mr. Lopart decides to name his boat the “Friend-Ship”.
  • Hidden Depths: It’s offhandedly mentioned that Kelly likes canoeing.
  • Improvisational Ingenuity: When stranded on Lake Nochanailin in a sailboat with a broken mast, Manny realizes they can turn the broken mast (and parts of Mr. Lopart’s picnic basket) into oars and row their way to shore.
  • Kissing the Ground: Rusty does this after they finally make it back to shore.
  • Lots of Luggage: Mr. Lopart loads his car with an absolute ton of luggage for his sailing trip, although all that luggage is inexplicably absent when he gets to Lake Nochanailin.
  • Pet Dress-Up: Mr. Lopart puts Fluffy in a life vest, and also puts a miniature first mate hat on her head.
  • Public Domain Soundtrack: Manny and the tools end up singing “Row, Row, Row Your Boat” as they literally row Mr. Lopart’s boat back to shore.
  • Punny Name: Mr. Lopart ends up giving his boat one: The “Friend-Ship”. It’s bad enough to cause an "Everybody Laughs" Ending.
  • Standard Snippet: The “Sailor’s Hornpipe” can be heard playing in the background at various points.
  • They Call Me MISTER Tibbs!: Being captain of his own sailboat miiight have started going to Mr. Lopart’s head.
Mr. Lopart: That’s Captain Lopart to you, sailor.
  • Umbrella Drink: In one scene, Fluffy can be inexplicably seen sipping from one.
  • We Sell Everything: For some reason, Kelly’s hardware store has duck floats.

Pepe’s Agua Fresca Stand

While going to Lola’s house to repair her mailbox, Manny discovers that Pepe has set up a stand selling agua fresca (fruit juice, basically), but hasn’t had any customers aside from Manny himself and the tools. Manny, of course, wants to help his nephew be successful, but just can’t figure out why no one else is around to buy agua fresca.

”Pepe’s Agua Fresca Stand” contains instances of:

  • Animal Reaction Shot: A shot of Fluffy rolling her eyes occurs after Mr. Lopart sings his jingle for Pepe the second time.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: In the opening, the tools are going through an obstacle course, and Turner is acting like this for no clear reason.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Early in the episode, Manny mentions that Kelly’s hardware store is having a big sale; later, it turns out that the reason Pepe’s agua fresca stand doesn’t have any customers is that pretty much everyone is at Kelly’s sale.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: One happens when Felipe offers to show Pepe’s prospective customers how delicious his agua fresca is… by drinking it himself.
  • Hollywood Tone-Deaf: Mr. Lopart, when trying to give Pepe’s agua fresca stand a jingle.
  • Knew It All Along: When the tools are commenting on pretty much everyone in town being at Kelly’s store:
    Pat: And- ooh, Kelly’s here!
Turner: Of course Kelly’s here. It’s her store.
Pat: Oh yeah. I knew that.
  • Lemonade Stand Plot: Pepe is trying to run a stand selling agua fresca (fruit juice), but after a whole day of sitting at it Manny and the tools are his only customers. It later turns out that the reason for this is that pretty much everyone is at Kelly’s hardware store, as she’s having a big sale today. Pepe promptly moves his stand to just beside Kelly’s store, and ends up having much more success.
  • Ooh, Me Accent's Slipping: In an in-universe example, when the tools are doing a Totem Pole Trench to attempt to give Pepe another “customer”, Dusty (who was acting as the “head”) keeps slipping from her artificially deep “customer” voice back into her normal voice.
  • Running Gag: Felipe really, really, really wants to drink agua fresca.
  • Totem Pole Trench: The tools do this (using Manny’s old jacket) as an attempt to cheer Pepe up by giving him “another customer”. Pepe isn’t fooled.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: This episode kickstarts agua fresca (fruit juice, basically) being portrayed as Felipe’s Trademaker Favorite Drink for the rest of the show.
