Recap / Hamster & Gretel S1E51 "The Great Pillow War"

Go To

It's time for Kevin and Gretel's yearly, traditional Great Pillow War, in which the two compete for a month's worth of total authority over the TV remote. Fred, Anthony and Bailey join in too, as well as Lauren, who is assigned to babysit Gretel, much to her brother Lyle's dismay.

Tropes:

  • Beware the Nice Ones: Bailey is usually friendly, but when it comes to pillow fights, she'll be ready to take action immediately.
  • Birthday Episode: Lyle has planned to have some fun with his sister for their half-birthday but is upset when Lauren is busy with her babysitting gig instead.
  • Childish Pillow Fight: Cranked up to eleven: Participants fight in two teams while strapped up in protective gear with piles of pillows in the front yard outside the house. Anyone who falls outside the borders is disqualified, the last team standing wins.
  • Rhymes on a Dime: When Gretel calls Hamster for help when Lyle (as FistPuncher) and Lauren (as The Destructress) are in a fight, a long string of rhymes on "sack" begins cavalcading from Hamster. Eventually ends on a Subverted Rhyme Every Occasion.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Bailey mentions the casualty corner has pigs-in-a-blanket from her mom after Anthony is out, Fred disqualifies herself on purpose to enjoy snacks herself as well. Bailey then decides she quits too because she's hungry as well.
  • Slasher Smile: Gretel uses this while sneaking into Kevin's room to start the pillow war.
  • Token Evil Teammate: Lauren (being The Destructress, unbeknownst to Kevin), joins Kevin's team when Hiromi had to cancel last-minute.
