A game of telephone with Cuddles goes wrong as Lumpy uses a large barrel for his end. The amplified sound causes Lumpy's ears to explode, losing his hearing. Meanwhile, while Lumpy tries to continue his life with no sound, he doesn't notice all the noises his appliances and electronics make. The resulting chaos wakes up next-door neighbor Fliqpy with a desire to kill Lumpy.
"Hear Today, Gone Tomorrow" contains the following:
- Breather Episode: A silly episode with a big emphasis on humor right before the two-part Flippy-centric finale.
- Continuity Nod: This episode brings back Fliqpy's obsession with trying to kill Lumpy, first shown in "Remains to be Seen".
- Downer Ending: Flippy and Cuddles are shredded by the helicopter and Lumpy tries to phone in help... by using the bean can.
- Foreshadowing: This episode hints Fliqpy being a separate character from Regular Flippy. Which directly ties in with the final two episodes.
- Helicopter Blender: Fliqpy manages to get a hold of one and tries to kill Lumpy with the blades. Subverted when Fliqpy snaps back to Flippy and he lifts the helicopter, crashing it into Cuddles's house. Then double subverted as the helicopter itself spins, slashing Cuddles and Flippy with the tail rotor.
- New Job as the Plot Demands: Sniffles is a doctor once again.
- Pet the Dog: Fliqpy decides to not kill Lumpy after seeing how innocent he actually is, switching back to Flippy.
- Single-Episode Handicap: Since everything goes back to normal next episode, Lumpy's deafness doesn't stick.
- Sir Not-Appearing-in-This-Trailer: Both Flippy and Cuddles are major characters this episode but the intro gives them featuring roles.
- They Killed Kenny Again: Flippy, Cuddles, The Mole, and Russell die.
- Throw the Dog a Bone: Lumpy, Giggles, Handynote , and Sniffles survive.
- Tin-Can Telephone: The episode starts with Lumpy and Cuddles playing with cans on a string. Then it escalates from there with different items.
