Time for a session with Dr. Lumpy.
"Two heads are better than one!"

Airdate: December 25, 2006

After another Fliqpy freakout at the carnival causes three dead tree friends, Flippy snaps out of it and finally finds out his condition. Seeking psychiatric help from Dr. Lumpy, he tries a few relaxing techniques the doctor recommends to keep himself from flipping out again.

"Double Whammy" provides examples of:

  • And I Must Scream: Nutty is thrown into a wall where he is incapacitated and unable to move — then Fliqpy begins to torture him.
  • Ascended Extra: Lumpy has much more of a starring role but is listed as a featuring character.
  • Bait-and-Switch: It seems like Petunia, Disco Bear, and Giggles are riding their own airplanes. Then after Fliqpy murders them all and snaps out, he realizes that they were all on a carnival ride.
  • Bookends: The penultimate episode of the season as well as part one of a two-parter; This episode and "The Wrong Side of the Tracks" (the season's first episode) take place in an amusement park.
  • Cliffhanger: Fliqpy is revealed to be a separate being from Flippy and the two fight.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death:
    • Giggles has her eyes forced out of her socket and is caught in an airplane's propellers, causing her organs and skeleton to be painfully pulled out.
    • Mime is forced to drink gasoline and then has a torch shot into his stomach as flames shoot out of every one of his orifices until he blows up.
    • Nutty has mouth filled with water until his head explodes.
  • Enemy Without: Fliqpy at the end. Maybe.
  • Failure Is the Only Option: When it comes to Dr. Lumpy's attempts to cure Flippy, they all fail.
  • Foreshadowing: Flippy has taken more anxiety pills than he really needed...
  • Freudian Couch: Flippy sits down on one during his therapy sessions with Lumpy to get his evil side under control.
  • Happy Place: During Flippy's third attempt at curbing his evil side Fliqpy with therapy, Lumpy uses hypnosis to help him reach one of these. It takes the form of a pastel-coloured forest where he has a nice, peaceful tea party with a bunch of purple-pink penguins. It returns in his dreams when he goes to sleep that night, but it doesn't stay peaceful for long as Fliqpy starts cutting himself out of one of the penguins with a Bowie knife, scaring Flippy awake.
  • Human Pincushion: Fliqpy sticks Sniffles full of arrows off-screen so he can "borrow" his bow to kill off Mime.
  • Hypno Fool: Lumpy somehow hypnotises himself into acting like a chicken while trying to use hypnotherapy to cure Flippy of his condition.
  • Inkblot Test: Lumpy shows Flippy a few on his first therapy session. They look like a knife, a bomb, and a skull-shaped mushroom cloud, causing Flippy to nearly flip out.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Flippy is very, very remorseful of his actions as Fliqpy.
  • New Job as the Plot Demands: Flippy is a carnival worker and Lumpy is a psychiatrist.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Lumpy's second method for dealing with Flippy's flip-outs, the anti-stress squeeze toy, instead ends up causing a flip-out when Flippy squeezes it too hard, causing it to pop.
  • Oh, Crap!: Flippy's reaction after witnessing the aftermath of one his flipped out massacres.
  • "Pop!" Goes the Human: This happens to Nutty's head when Fliqpy uses a water pistol to fill it with water à la the water balloon clown stand Flippy was in charge of.
  • Slashed Throat: How Disco Bear is killed.
  • Smart Ball: Lumpy, for the most part. He is the only one aware of Flippy's flip-outs and what causes them; his methods for trying to cure Flippy were very rational and almost worked. Though near the end of the episode, Lumpy stupidly hypnotizes himself into thinking he's a chicken.
  • There Are No Therapists: Averted. Flippy finally finds out he has a murderous Split Personality, and the very next scene sees him attending therapy in an attempt to get his condition under control. Unfortunately, the problem proves to be very deep seated, and every method he tries only works temporarily before it causes a flip-out in one way or another. He finally gives up and decides to see himself out when his therapist, Lumpy, accidentally hypnotises himself into clucking like a chicken during an attempt at hypnotherapy. Relatedly, he's later seen taking what is presumably anti-anxiety medication after he has a nightmare.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Sniffles, Mime, Nutty, Disco Bear, Giggles, and Petunia die.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Lumpy, Flippy, Flaky, Cuddles, Handy, and Russell survive.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Flippy lies in this position while cuddling a teddy bear during his third psychiatry appointment with Lumpy after killing Nutty.
  • Water Wake-up: When Flippy starts to flip out during his psychiatry appointment with Dr. Lumpy, Lumpy dumps the contents of a conveniently placed fish bowl over his head to snap him out of it.
  • Wham Episode: Flippy is made aware of his condition and Fliqpy is revealed to be a separate person.
  • Your Head Asplode: How Nutty dies after being forcibly fed far too much water.
