The Treasure exerts an unhealthy influence.

Man is not what he thinks he is, he is what he hides.

Hank and Wu find a solution to stop Renard while Nick is still fleeing. Adalind gets a phone call that throws her into the middle of everything.

Monroe's and Rosalee's babysitting adventure turns interesting as they witness Diana's power.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Addictive Magic: The stick seems to be bonding to Nick in an unhealthy way. The gang are concerned that it's affecting him as well as helping him, and when they suggest he put it away for a while he gets angry. He soon realises he's seriously overreacting and puts it back in the casket for his own good.
  • All for Nothing: The gang forcing Renard into a "Trust Me Knot" spell with Nick, enforcing an agreement where Adalind will give Renard an alibi for Rachel's murder in exchange for Renard calling off the warrants against Nick and reinstating him. Renard uses his Black Claw judge to dodge the murder charge, thereby preventing Adalind from testifying for him and letting Renard out of his end. Renard therefore remains a free man, while Nick is still a fugitive, and furthermore Renard demands Hank and Wu's resignations.
  • Blood Magic: The "Trust Me Knot" spell is sealed with Adalind's blood.
  • Bookcase Passage: The secret door to the tunnels is hidden inside a disused furnace somewhere hear the docks.
  • Call-Back:
  • Downer Ending: Renard has successfully dodged the charges related to Rachel's murder, leaving no way for the gang to pressure him to call off the manhunt against Nick.
  • Goo-Goo-Godlike: Monroe and Rosalee agree to watch Diana and Kelly while Adalind visits Renard. Diana makes them both very nervous with her magic, by floating various jars around herself and turning one into an energy burst before putting them all back.
  • He Went That Way: Nick misdirects the cops outside Bud's shop by stealing a SWAT uniform and sending everyone on a wild goose chase.
  • Invisible to Normals: Diana can also see the symbols on the stick's cloth, and draws them for the gang.
  • Just Shoot Him: Increasingly Wu's attitude to Renard. Unfortunately, that wouldn't help Nick.
  • Let Me Get This Straight...: Between Renard and Adalind, when he calls her in to discuss his murder charges. Renard was with Bonaparte at the time of the murder, but can't say that as Bonaparte is dead now, having been killed by Renard.
Adalind: So you expect me to be your alibi for a murder you didn't commit because you were actually murdering the person who was your alibi?
    Renard: Basically, yeah.
  • Mama Bear: Adalind flat-out refuses to provide an alibi for Renard, because perjuring herself would result in her children having two parents in prison. She only relents when Nick asks her to as part of a deal for his freedom (so in order to get her son's father back).
    Renard: You owe me!
Adalind: I owe my children, and if I have to choose between me going to jail and you going to jail, good luck with the grand jury.
  • Sanity Slippage: Renard's delusions regarding Meisner's death become more serious.
  • Title Drop: The "Trust Me Knot" is a Hexenbiest ritual that enforces a bargain between two people. The first one to break their end is strangled with the rope.
  • Tunnel Network: Most of the gang are back in the tunnels, this time entering using the other door Monroe found.
