And branded upon the beast, the mark of his kin. For none shall live whom they have seen.

Nick's reputation is on the line when a sadistic murderer targeting Wesen appears to be a Grimm. As Nick hunts the killer, the killer also appears to be hunting him.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Asshole Victim: The first two victims were involved in kidnapping a girl, so no one's too upset about them. Bud, on the other hand, is clearly harmless and is only targeted as he's friends with Nick.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: The rogue Grimm chains Wesen up and brands them with a symbol before killing them.
  • Distressed Dude: Bud, after being abducted and chained up by Ryan. He's on the point of getting branded when Nick and Hank arrive to rescue him.
Bud: Oh god, oh god, help!
Ryan: [wielding a branding iron] Shut up!
Bud: If you think I'm going to stop screaming while you're doing that, you're crazy! Not that I mean to criticize.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: A renegade Grimm torturing Wesen is harming Nick's credibility in the Grimm community.
Bud: Because Nick, we trust you, and nobody wants to stop trusting you after all the trust they placed in you. And trust me, everyone is waiting to hear from me.
  • Internalized Categorism: Ryan the Intern, a Lebensauger (lamprey-like Wesen) who hates Wesen and believes they all deserve to die, including harmless ones like Bud. He's obsessed with Nick and joined the police to get close to him, but seems to have had a psychotic break when he realised Nick is on good terms with many Wesen and tried to become a "real Grimm." When cornered, he begs Nick to kill him.
Hank: So is Ryan a Grimm?
    Nick: Not even close.
    Hank: What is he?
Nick: Whatever he is, it's not what he wants to be.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Monroe and Bud are shown reacting with horror when the Endezeichen symbol appears on the news, implying that all Wesen are reacting similarly.
  • Names to Run Away from Really Fast: The Endezeichen Grimms. Monroe explains that "Endezeichen" roughly means "Armageddon."
  • Room Full of Crazy: When the detectives check Ryan's room, they find a huge, creepy shrine dedicated to Nick.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Sigil Spam: The mark of the Endezeichen Grimm, a G stylized to resemble a skull, is painted at the crime scenes.
