Go To

"Honey, I Broke the House" is an episode in the third season of Full House.

Tropes seen in this episode:

  • Car Meets House: While playing around in Joey's car, Stephanie unwittingly puts the car in reverse, sending it through the kitchen wall.
  • Character Development: Jesse actually shows better control of his jealousy in this episode. While he momentarily loses his cool he decides to ride his motorcycle till it goes away then stops by Rebecca's apartment to apologize. He does get jealous again, but this time it was more justified as someone was clearly hiding in Rebecca's closet and she was acting very suspicious about who it was note .
  • Comically Missing the Point: With Danny angry at him upon coming home, Joey thinks this is over not refilling the ice cube tray. Upon walking into the kitchen and seeing the whole mess:
Joey: This is my punishment for not filling the ice cube tray?!
  • Delayed "Oh, Crap!": Since no one actually saw how the accident occurred, Stephanie figures she's not in any trouble, only to suddenly realize that Joey will eventually tell Danny how she was with the car the last he saw it.
  • Disappointed in You: Danny when berating Stephanie for both the accident and trying to run away from home after the fact.
Danny: Stephanie, I am very disappointed in you. How could you do this? You could've been hurt! You could've hurt someone else! What you did today is the stupidest thing you've ever done.
Stephanie: I know! That's why I ran away.
Danny: And you know better than that, too, don't you?
  • Easily Forgiven: Averted. Danny eases up on the yelling when seeing Stephanie is already pretty guilt-ridden and consoles her when she cries, but he says she's still getting a big punishment for all this.
  • From the Mouths of Babes: Moments after Jesse tells 3-year-old Michelle to keep mum about the incident to her dad (so he can find a way to break the news to Danny), Michelle immediately blabs, with the immortal line "There's a car in the kitchen!" Danny laughs at the notion as Jesse now is forced to take him into the kitchen and show him exactly what happened.
  • Headphones Equal Isolation: D.J. and Kimmy were listening to music this way, apparently being why they didn't hear the commotion in the kitchen when Michelle did.
  • I Warned You: Michelle's claims of there being a car in the kitchen are dismissed out of hand. After D.J. sees that there is indeed a car in the kitchen, Michelle takes a moment to gloat about being right.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: After the accident, Stephanie hopefully suggests that no one will notice this mess. Michelle immediately enters and is left stunned.
  • Irony:
    • This whole mess happened because Stephanie wanted to listen to the car's radio. Much later, Joey points out the radio never worked in the first place.
    • Danny laments how he just waxed the kitchen floor before this car disaster happened.
  • Jaw Drop: Michelle, upon seeing the damage done to the kitchen.
  • Mathematician's Answer: When asked, Michelle says she knows exactly how the car got into the kitchen: "Through the window." D.J. and Kimmy repeat the line when Jesse asks how this happened.
  • Not Hyperbole: Michelle's attempt to explain the situation ("There's a car in the kitchen!") is dismissed by D.J. as just imagination running wild. Then she walks through the door and sees the kid is exactly right.
  • Now You Tell Me: Stephanie's reaction to Joey revealing the car's radio never worked.
  • Pun: Jesse finds Stephanie hiding at Becky's house, suspended on a closet door through an overcoat.
Jesse: Steph, what are you doing here?
    Stephanie: Just hanging around.
  • Snark-to-Snark Combat: Honorable mention to this exchange:
D.J.: Hey, Dad, it's almost dinner. Do you want me to set the car?
Danny: Sure, honey, but use the good hubcaps.
  • The Runaway: Fearing that Danny will be very angry with her to the point of disowning her, Stephanie decides to hide in Jesse and Becky's room, so she can make her next move in running away.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: As the kids tell Jesse that no one is injured, Danny comes home. D.J. acknowledges how the resident Neat Freak is going to lose it over this.
  • Watch the Paint Job: Joey has just acquired the car and was going to get some touch-up paint at the time of the events leading to Stephanie sending his car into the kitchen.
  • Wiper Start: Inverted. Stephanie wants to turn on the radio and thinks the "R" on the transmission stands for "radio", thus sending the car through the kitchen.
