Recap / Freshy Kanal Norman Bates Vs Jack Torrance

Go To

Bates Motel owner Norman Bates from Psycho faces off against Overlook Hotel caretaker Jack Torrance from The Shining in a rap battle between horror movie villains.

This rap battle provides examples of:

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Norman does a triple "f" in one of his lines.
Now I'll make this the Part 2 of ridding frantic frivolous fathers
  • Axe Before Entering: Jack demonstrates that if Norman hides his mother's corpse in the basement, Jack will just break the door with axe like in his film.
There won't be secret behind closed door when Here's Johnny!
  • Deliberately Monochrome: Norman's parts are almost completely black-and-white as a reference to his film being black-and-white, although the blood is red unlike in the film.
  • Disowned Adaptation: In-universe, Norman makes a dig about how "the author of this author (Jack Torrance)" is really unhappy with the changes that Stanley Kubrick made when adapting The Shining.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: When Norman says he is going to check Jack in as "Jack Frost" in his guest book, the book content is briefly seen, showing the names of Soy Choob, Freshy Kanal, frequent collaborator Snakebite128 and some characters who have already appeared (Bear Grylls, Barry Allen, Krampus, and techinically Jack Frost too).
  • Mummies at the Dinner Table: During Jack's second verse, Norman sits with his mother's corpse at a table, hence Jack sarcastically asking Norman about Norman's dinner with a corpse.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Norman's moment of these, whenever he can think straight after committing murder, is referenced by Jack.
An empty, anxious, little bitch who ripped his soul with what he caused
  • Precision F-Strike: Norman's first verse is swearing-free, befitting him being polite. Then, comes Jack's verse whose first two swears ("Now they sent me both cases with one goddamn person" and "Then, fucking play with me, Norman!") hit much more strongly, especially since he is relatively calm at first and starts being more direct with his insults after the second one.
  • Slasher Smile: Both characters are known for making this in their films, especially Jack, and it shows.
    • The thumbnail has Jack giving a slasher grin while holding the grip of an axe. Norman also smiles creepily too, although not to the point of grinning.
    • When Jack starts threatening Norman in his first verse, Jack also starts to grin mockingly.
    • "Mother" grins quite creepily when dissing Jack's death while holding a knife.
    • Just like in his film, Jack maniacally smiles when breaking down Norman's door with his axe.
    • The battle ends with Jack grinning at the camera after finishing dissing Norman's mental issue.
