Recap / Freshy Kanal Loki Vs Count Olaf

Go To

Marvel's version of Norse God of Mischief Loki Laufeyson raps against the main villain of A Series of Unfortunate Events Count Olaf in a battle between scheming, disguising villains.

This rap battle contains examples of:

  • Air Quotes: Lemony Snicket makes one when calling Loki's lines against Olaf as "quick quips", implying he doesn't think highly of them despite opining that Olaf has been burned.
  • Arc Fatigue: In-universe, Olaf complains about how Loki's story arc in Marvel Cinematic Universe never "set sails".
  • Bait-and-Switch: Nearing the end of Olaf's first verse, Olaf seems to be mocking Loki's ice creature nature, until at the last line, he turns out to be Loki in disguise mocking Olaf's thirst for his foster daughter.
  • Boring Insult: Loki says Olaf (or rather the franchise of novels from which he originates) is so boring that it's the reason Odin hasn't awaken from Odinsleep.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: Some parts during Olaf's verse is monochromed for effect.
  • Double Entendre: Count Olaf's "I still keep my staff under my control". The previous line is about mind control, implying he's talking about his henchman; but the next line is about Loki's sexuality, implying he's talking about his penis.
  • Fascinating Eyebrow: Olaf likes to raise one of his eyebrows when he is smug, to the point Loki mocks it. Humorously, Olaf immediately raises his eyebrow in response.
  • In the Back: Thanks to the ERB-style allowing multiple Olafs in the same shot, there's a scene where Olaf stabs himself in the back, specifically the Olaf who is disguised as Loki.
  • Lemony Narrator: Lemony Snicket, the Trope Namer himself, shows up to narrate the beginning of Olaf's second verse in full Deadpan Snarker mode.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Count Olaf compares Loki's Frost Giant form to an Avatar carcass ("James!"), due to their blue forms.
    • Olaf has a bar based on Frozen, pointing out how he shares his name with Olaf the Snowman, but Loki is the one who is an ice creature and falls off a bridge like Marshmellow.
    • Loki believes Count Olaf is less a real count than even Count von Count from Sesame Street.
  • You Have GOT to Be Kidding Me!: Loki is clearly unimpressed that his opponent is just a mortal, as shown in his first line.
Loki: Oh then, you're surely joking; you must be the reason Odin still hasn't awoken.
