Jessica tries to give Honey advice on how to deal with her clingy daughter Maria, only for Evan to start clinging on to her after breaking up with his girlfriend. Despite becoming a vegan, Emery wants to accompany Louis and Eddie as they review various burger restaurants.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: After swapping to veganism and suggesting a bad-tasting vegan burger for their tour, Louis and Eddie decide to exclude Emery from the "burger boys" and replace him with Trent. When Emery finds out, he's outraged, claiming that he accepts they still enjoy meat but is outraged that they refuse to accept his own tastes. In the end, Louis and Eddie apologize, stating they can all find a new bonding activity together.
  • Blatant Lies: While playing cards with Grandma Jenny, Honey asks her if she has any Fives, and is told to go fish; not only does the camera angle show that the only card she's holding is indeed a five, Honey states that there aren't any cards left in the draw pile.
  • Clingy Child: The focus of the Jessica/Evan plot is Evan becoming one, spending all day with Jessica to recover from his break-up and then finding excuses to come home in the middle of a school day to spend more time with her.
  • Disgusting Vegetarian Food: When Louis and Eddie begrudgingly accept Emery's suggestion of a vegan faux-burger restaurant, they claim to taste cardboard and dirt in their meal. Later, Louis tries to apologize for excluding Emery from the "burger boys" by making a veggie burger of his own, and Emery can only state that "it's in my mouth".
  • Evil Is Petty: In The Tag, Matthew Chestnut is upset that Louis chose to add Trent to the "burger boys" before him, and after being spotted hanging out with Grandma Jenny, says to Louis' face that he's getting revenge by dating his mom.
  • Freudian Slip: Throughout the episode, Jessica's been trying to make an audio version of her novel and keeps being interrupted by Evan. In the end, after reaching an understanding about his recent clinginess, Evan offers to help Jessica instead of interrupting her by providing the screams of the victims; in his first attempt, he can't help but state that he's been murdered by his ex-girlfriend, and realizes he still might have some issues to work on.
  • Offscreen Breakup: Between Evan and his girlfriend Sicily; after the episode's opening scene where Evan mentions that they're still together, his next appearance is him coming home crying about her breaking up with him.
  • Right Behind Me: Right as it seems that Evan's finally stopped being clingy and would rather spend time hosting a sleepover, Jessica complains to Honey and Grandma about his earlier behavior. It turns out Evan picked that moment to come downstairs to get a drink, and is insulted by Jessica's claim that he's been "too much", though he later reflects on his actions and admits that he's indeed been rather clingy recently.
  • Straw Vegetarian: Although Emery doesn't force his new beliefs on his family, he's still upset over being excluded from the "burger boys" and their restaurant tour despite earlier bringing his own tofu and carrot sticks into a burger restaurant, annoying the waitress by only ordering seltzer water.
  • Virtuous Vegetarianism: The kind-hearted Emery watched a PBS special on animal cruelty and immediately decided to go vegan the next day.
