    Prelude — Tragedy of Hardin
The second war against Dolhr would go down in history of Archanea as 'War of Shadows'. Marth and his allies mostly went back to their respective homes. As the last of the Archanean Royal Family, Princess Nyna bore the responsibility to continue the bloodline, pressured by the Bishop Boah to appease the people's demands. Marth was considered as a husband candidate, as he bore the Fire Emblem during the War of Shadows. But, Nyna has been good friends with the princess of Talys, Caeda, who has been around with Marth since the beginning, so she let Marth made Caeda her fiancee, while she took the next best candidate: Prince Hardin of Aurelis.

Hardin was happy as he also harbored love to the Princess and together, they ushered an age of prosperity. Unfortunately for him, it was one-sided for political purposes. Nyna's heart belonged to the leader of the Sable Knights Camus, who went missing after the War of Shadows. When he learned about this, Hardin became absolutely heartbroken that he hid himself from public in grief, locking himself on the room. A merchant offered him an artifact that might ease his soul, but that ended up as his downfall. The merchant was Gharnef in disguise, surviving the War of Shadows through the very artifact he gave Hardin: The Darksphere. With that, Hardin's soul was consumed and he began to change from a just king into a mad tyrant.

     Prelude — Assassins
After the War of Shadows, Marth began to bolster up his forces, recruiting fresh soldiers. Amongst them were three cavalier squires, Luke, Roderick and Cecile; Gordin's little brother Ryan, a youth named Kris and a shy aspiring strategist girl named Katarina. Kris, Luke, Roderick, Katarina, Ryan and Cecile ended up in the same squad and they began their days being trained by Altean veterans like Jagen, Cain and a lot more, and learning more about Marth from people close to him.

In the meantime, while returning to Talys, Caeda and her escort, Norne, went missing in a small rebellion that seemed to oppose her engagement with Marth. Ogma was deployed to quell the rebellion, and clashed temporarily with Navarre. However, Caeda resurfaced, safe and sound and put an end to the in-fighting and eventually moved to Altea.

Eventually, Kris' squad was deemed eligible to be promoted, but during the coronation day, Katarina revealed herself to be a spy of a certain assassin group desiring to kill off Marth and his allies. Thanks to Kris, their squad and many other veterans' help, Marth staved off Katarina's surprise attack, but he noticed sadness in Katarina's face. After taking consideration that Katarina was particularly close with Kris, Marth promoted Kris into Royal Guard position, knowing that Katarina might sprung up to him again and when the time comes, Kris could snap her out of her senses based on their friendship.

War of Heroes — Grustian Rebellion
Days passed as the day of Marth and Caeda's marriage drew near. At the day before, however, Marth received a message from Hardin that the people of Grust were preparing to rebel and he should take a squad to quell it. Due to the authority of the Archanean Empire, there was no choice but for Marth to comply. Marth took Kris, Luke, Roderick, Cecile and Ryan amongst the new bloods, while bringing in Gordin and Draug amongst the veteran. Jagen stood for the ill Malledus as strategist and tasked Arran as the great veteran that will protect the new bloods. Despite his hidden illness, Arran accepted the position. Cain was left in charge of Altea in Marth's absence.

To Marth's shock, he was put under the cruel and ruthless Duke Lang of Adria, a traitor during the War of Shadows. He told Marth that the one in charge of the rebellion was General Lorenz, an ally of Marth during the War of Shadows, on the basis that he was hiding members of the Grustian royal family. Lang's cruelty that he planned to raze the villages that dared oppose him shocked Marth that Hardin would trust such a vile man like him, but he still had to quell Lorenz' rebellion. Along the way, Marth visited a village that immediately offered a young looking girl to him for shelter out of fear that she would become a victim of Lang's cruelty. The girl, Marisha, believed that Marth is a honest man, so she immediately jumped at the chance to join Marth's entourage.

In the meantime, Lorenz has contacted Ogma, under the orders of the Talys Kingdom, to flee with the Grustian royal children, Yuliya and Jubelo to Macedon, but Yuliya's stubbornness didn't allow her to leave Lorenz alone as he was heavily wounded in a previous battle. In exchange, Ogma would think of a way to strike down Lang and retreated. Marth confronted Lorenz to stop the rebellion, promising that he would tell Hardin the truth that he's innocent. Lorenz, however, told Marth that Hardin has changed, the sign has already been there: He would made an evil man like Lang a General and desiring to subjugate Grust. Lorenz entrusted Marth with the safety of Yuliya and Jubelo and succumbed to his wounds.

Both children were terrified against Marth, accusing him of Lorenz' murder. Before Marth could clear his name, Lang entered and took the children custody, while ordering Marth to head to Macedon, as apparently there was a rebellion in which the ruling Princess Minerva was overthrown and imprisoned. While he was worried of the fate of the two children, Marth had no choice but to head to Macedon, as otherwise the people of Altea would be branded traitors.

War of Heroes — Rebellion at Macedon

After the War of Shadows, Minerva took the throne of Macedon and ruled it in the stead of her brother Michalis. Her rule was decidedly more peaceful, but it didn't sit well to some of the more war-attuned members of the kingdom. As such, they plotted a coup, and combined with Minerva's less-than-willing desire to rule in the first place, she was overthrown and imprisoned.

As Marth arrived in the borders of Macedon, he was greeted with one of the Whitewings, Catria, who also escaped. With Catria's help, Marth started making his way to a nearby fortress. Along the way, he was joined with one of his allies, Cord of Talys, and Catria also convinced a mercenary named Warren to join their cause. Arriving at the fortress, Marth reunited with Linde who was locked up within the fortress and she handed him the Fire Emblem. This came as a shock for Marth since he thought it was supposed to be a peaceful time, but Linde explained that it was a personal request by Nyna who entrusted her with this task, and as far as Linde remembered, lately Nyna has been very sorrowful. One thing for sure, Linde would be sticking with Marth once more.

Marth's army continued to march to Macedon, also recruiting Cord's friend Bord. The eldest Whitewing sister, Palla, spotted Marth's army and informed Julian, who has settled there with Lena, that they could flee as she and Marth's army rescue Minerva. Julian, however, couldn't leave because Lena went missing. This shocked Palla because Princess Maria also went missing, and the similarity was that they were both clerics, meaning that there has been cases of several clerics going missing. Regardless, Julian went on to investigate his village further while Palla defended the area, until Marth caught up and was also informed about Lena being missing. Tagging along with Marth, Julian also managed to convince Matthis to join up with Marth again, a much better thought than being strong-armed with the rebels of Macedon.

Marth was too late, however. When he arrived at the castle, Minerva was nowhere to be found. Apparently, Michalis has returned, surviving the fatal wound he sustained in the War of Shadows, and took Minerva away. Just as he pondered, Lang arrived once more and issued another order for Marth. Someone took Yuliya and Yubelo away from him and fled, and he had to re-capture them. At this point, Marth has had enough and decided that he would not follow any of Lang's orders. This gave Lang enough excuse to accuse Marth as a traitor because the one who took the twins away was Ogma, an ally of Marth, so he thought he gave Ogma some secret orders. Marth affirmed that he would do the same anyway and promised to report Lang's crimes to Hardin and Nyna. Even Jagen, despite his old age stood bravely to oppose Lang, causing him to flee while promising retribution from the Empire.

War of Heroes — Fall of Altea, Liberation of Grust
Before Marth headed to catch up with Yuliya and Yubelo, he heard news about the assassins, the same one that Katarina was affiliated with, starting some suspicious activities. As it turned out, Katarina, along with one of her siblings, the sniper Clarisse, led a group of assassins to assassinate the curate Wrys since he was an ally of Marth in the War of Shadows. Marth, with the help of Kris, managed to rescue Wrys.

Ogma took the twins into Holm Beach, planning to shelter them with Wendell. However, the place was littered with pirates, so Ogma once again took up his sword to protect the twins while they also practiced the magic that Wendell taught them. One of the attackers, however, surprised Ogma. The attacker was a blonde man riding a horse with excellent lance play, and he's wearing a mask. However, he immediately turned over to Ogma as he had a desire to protect the twins. Introducing himself as Sirius, he told Ogma to catch up with Marth's army that approached from the southwest. Marth himself also managed to recruit Castor along the way, he also planned to visit Wendell, but to his surprise, Wendell himself has been taken somewhere else.

Just as soon as they cleaned up the pirates, a familiar figure flew right to their side. It was Caeda, who brought dire news that Altea has been taken over by Archanea thanks to an ambush by Gra and Aurelis. Jagen deduced that Hardin actually listened to Lang and agreed to brand Marth and Altea a traitor, much to Marth's surprise... or perhaps, the Grustian Rebellion was actually Hardin's own trap to make sure Altea had little fighting force. Caeda also informed that she could only escape because Elice bought her some time, but she felt incredibly guilty about it. Marth still comforted her that no matter what, they will reclaim Altea, but first, they have to take care of a certain avaricious duke that allowed this to happen.

As Marth's army approached Lang's hideout, the Olbern Keep, Lang decided to call reinforcements from Archanea led by Jeorge, now armed with the Regalia Parthia. However, Jeorge himself disliked Lang enough that he would not bother with that order, but instead ordered his men to stand their ground, as this was the only way to not get himself executed which would cause his men to also get executed. With Jeorge staying neutral, nothing stopped Marth to raid the Olbern Keep, also picking up Rickard and Barst with the help of Julian, Bord, Cord and Ogma respectively.

Within the interiors of the Olbern Keep, Lang planned for a pincer attack. He also has hired the services of the Scarlet Fencer Navarre, though something felt a bit off with this fencer. As Marth fought on within the keep, he also caught up with both Norne and Frey, who survived the decoy tactics during the War of Shadows and made a recovery and healthy enough to escape from Archanea's attack. As the army approached Navarre, either Ogma or Caeda managed to discover that this wasn't Navarre, but a copycat named Samuel whose life was saved by Ogma during his gladiator days, and tipped off Caeda that something was off about him because Navarre wouldn't compliment a lady's look.

Finally facing Lang, he feigned innocence that he was just following orders, but his ruse was seen from miles away and the evil man was struck down dead. Marth reunited with Wendell who was imprisoned by Lang in the middle of his mission from Gotoh to gather the twelve Starspheres to prevent a calamity. While worried about that, Marth decided to focus on retaking Altea. But he complied to Wendell's suggestion to stop by the Fane of Raman.

War of Heroes — Struggle at Khadein
Before Marth could depart, however, he found himself surrounded by some of his former allies. The mercenaries Caesar and Radd were hired by Hardin and they would be assisted with the assassins. Accompanying them is the crazed masked fighter Legion. Despite the disadvantage, Marth prevailed without killing his former allies, and brought Caesar and Radd back to his ranks after promising them a good paycheck.

As Marth arrived at the Fane of Raman, he noticed several thieves already raiding the place and harassing a dancer by the name of Feena. She was, however, not alone. A familiar figure was lending his hand for her protection for some reason, the real Scarlet Fencer Navarre. Formerly siding with the thieves, he changed his mind when he noticed Marth's army coming, knowing that there's someone he'd like to meet over there. After cleaning up the thieves, Marth noticed that the place has been razed, although they did find some Starspheres from the thieves.

As the army made their way to the Chaimsir Bridge, Marth reunited with Cain, who informed that Hardin had them surrounded. But nevertheless, they could still make it if they could reach the northwestern fort. With Hardin leading the charge and Astram pursuing from the south, Marth's army had to hurry. But along the way, Marth managed to bring Bantu back to his army, and Caeda once again 'seduced' Roger back to their side. When Marth eventually faced Hardin, he was shocked to hear that Hardin had plans to cleanse the world that he deemed too corrupt. And he also gave the vibes that he was invincible thanks to an outer source. Thankfully for Marth, with the help of Gordin, he managed to convince Jeorge who guarded the northwestern fort to lay down his bow, too disgusted with how Hardin acted that he decided to join Marth too.

With the help of Kris, Marth managed to keep the casualties at minimum as the army got on the boats that sailed to Khadein. He had to hurry to Archsage Gotoh as the Archanea forces led by Astram was still in hot pursuit. Thankfully for him, Etzel, who resided within Khadein, came to offer his aid. Meanwhile, Michalis dropped Minerva to a nearby village and revealed why he did these things; he wanted to atone for his actions, after the War of Shadows, Maria still prayed for his health, even until she was driven in tears. This moved Michalis to repay her kindness, especially with Maria now missing. Michalis told Minerva to join up with Marth while he went to do his own business, something that she did the moment Marth arrived in the village.

Marth managed to make it to Khadein's main building but noticed an extremely tense air. As it turned out, Merric has been accosted by his rival Arlen out of jealousy of being chosen to wield Excalibur and also conspiring with Altea when the Mage Corps of Khadein pledged alliance with Hardin. Marth managed to save Merric, while Wendell reprimanded Arlen, stating that he did consider to make him the successor of Khadein, and his actions towards Merric were parallels with how Gharnef betrayed Gotoh and murdered Miloah out of jealousy. Horrified and ashamed, Arlen decided to use his magic for Marth's cause.

Marth managed to contact Gotoh and learned about the fate of Hardin, having his soul consumed by the Darksphere. He decided to obtain the only tool that could pierce through the Darksphere's invincibility, the Lightsphere, with the help of Gotoh. For that, Marth must undertake the path taken by his ancestor Anri to obtain Falchion, traveling to the Ice Dragon Shrine by foot. Before that, however, mercenaries Malice and Dice offered their services to him.

Before he could depart, he received information that the knight Horace was under attack by the assassins. The squadron was led by Legion, who appeared in many places at once, as they were actually a bunch of lookalikes sharing one mindset. Marth managed to figure out Legion's secret and killed the main body. With the main body of Legion destroyed, the rest of the body doubles were deemed useless by his and Katarina's master, Eremiya, and then were set to be disposed, much to Katarina's distress.

War of Heroes — Anri's Way Redux

The first obstacle Marth had to endure is to travel through the Desert of Death located within Thabes. It's a desert where sight was hampered with sand storm, while wyverns and bandits surround the area looking for prey. Marth pressed on, and with the help of Caeda, he managed to bring back the wayward Jake into the group once more.

After finally reaching the Tower of Thabes, Marth was greeted by Tiki... or so it seemed, as Tiki was acting rather forward but it was really spot on to her childish yet lonely personality. In the last minutes, turned out it was Xane playing a prank on Marth. He decided to guide Marth through the fire dragons' graveyard, the Flame Bell volcano, all while explaining the history of Manakates as well as his eventual bitterness to mankind and revealing the status of Tiki and Gotoh as divine dragons.

In the middle of fighting flame dragons, Marth encountered the pirate Darros, forced into a dishonorable position because no one would accept an ex-pirate for a honest job. Regardless, Marth brought Darros back to his ranks once more. At the end of the journey at the volcano, Marth was greeted by three of the Sable Knights, Belf, Robert and Leiden. The former subordinates of Camus pledged their service to Marth to protect Marth, though they fail to notice that their commander was still alive and nearby, only taking the guise of Sirius.

As Marth approached the Ice Dragon Shrine, Xane finished his exposition about the history of Naga and the Dragon Tribe. Despite exhaustion of his army, Marth managed to press on, even managing to recruit back Beck, who lost his ballista and now rode a horse. Before he could enter the Shrine, however, Marth was notified that the assassins were tailing behind them and pursuing one of their allies. Marth decided to investigate and found Athena under attack by Clarisse, who used the snowstorm as a cover to strike from afar. Marth persevered and defeated Clarisse.

Katarina, despite Clarisse's protests, pleaded Eremiya to heal her sister, and yet Eremiya coldly told her to leave Clarisse for the dead as she'll be of no use with that heavy wounds. Despite her usual aloofness, Clarisse ended up begging for Katarina to stay with her in her final seconds.

Meanwhile, Marth finally reached the Ice Dragon Shrine and as a reward, Gotoh granted him the Lightsphere. Throughout his journey, he has collected all the Starspheres and allowed Gotoh to unlock the true potential of the Fire Emblem as the Binding Shield. With that, Gotoh told him about the danger Tiki was in: Without the Binding Shield, she would degenerate into beasts, just like every other dragons. He put her to sleep to prevent that, but with the Binding Shield, she would be safe from that danger. After awakening Tiki and bringing her back to his side, Marth was teleported by Gotoh to the main land once more, to be exact, his home at Altea.

War of Heroes - Reclamation of Altea and Gra
The Archanea forces has anticipated the arrival of Marth and prepared to move out. Just to be sure, they brought in the veteran Altea knight Abel to fight by their side. After the War of Shadows, Abel retired from the army and became a shopkeeper and married the youngest of the Whitewings, Est. However, during the invasion of Altea, Est was taken hostage and Abel was forced back into the army and betray Altea, otherwise Est would be killed. On the other hand, Marth has in possession of the Rescue Staff from Yuliya, in which the staff was used to bring Est back to safety. With Est safe, Abel saw no reason to side with Archanea anymore and returned to Marth's service. The Archanean knights Dolph and later Macellan also offered their services to Marth as they have thought that Archanea has fallen from the path of justice.

As they approached the Altea castle, Marth was not amused with how thieves ran amok in the castle, but he pushed on. The Archanean knights were led by Astram, but this time, Jeorge approached him and finally convinced him that siding with Archanea blindly wouldn't be what Nyna wanted. Though skeptical, Astram decided to side with Marth as he helped the prince reclaim Altea. To Marth's shock, however, Elice was nowhere to be found, having been kidnapped by Gharnef, and Gotoh deduced that it was the same case with Lena and Maria.

The people rejoiced with the return of the prince, but Marth knew that his job wasn't over. He had to take on Archanea next and save his sister. But before that, Jagen notified that a familiar face was approaching him for what would be a final encounter. Katarina has been ordered to personally kill Marth, otherwise, Eremiya would dispose her, just like she did to Clarisse and Legion, coercing with how she was the one to pick her up when every one of her family died. Marth intuition to promote Kris as the Royal Guard proved right as after taking blows from Katarina's magic and standing still, they managed to reveal that Katarina was suffering and actually never wanted to kill Marth, having grown fond with Kris, the squad she was in, and Marth as well. After obtaining Marth's forgiveness, Katarina was welcomed to his ranks once more.

The first stop of invading Archanea was to invade Gra. After the death of Jiol, his daughter Sheena was reinstated to the nation and attempted to rebuild the nation with focus on the people's safety than the nation's pride, which made her popular amongst the crowd, although she still couldn't resist Hardin's orders. With the Altean army approaching, the soldiers were eager to protect their ruler, and yet they were terribly inexperienced. Looking at the strength of the Altean forces, the soldiers were fleeing in fear. Sheena resigned to her fate that Gra's end was near, and yet she would stand to witness her country's end to the last seconds. She told her bodyguard, Samson, that he shouldn't involve himself in her last days, but Samson insisted, curious at the caliber of Marth that passed the opportunity to recruit him back in the War of Shadows.

Marth was also joined by another Archanean soldier that defected from the nation, Tomas. He quickly realized the situation the Gra soldiers were in. He was thankfully already past the desire of vengeance of Jiol killing his father, so he tried his best to not kill the fleeing Gra soldiers and asked Sheena to join forces with him. Impressed with Marth's mercy, Sheena agreed to join him. Samson was about to leave seeing that Sheena was in good hands, but she begged him to stay with her. Additionally, a priest named Frost offered his services to Marth.

War of Heroes — Fall of the Empire
It is decided that Marth would take the shortcut through Adria Pass to reach Archanea in the shortest time. However, they were ambushed by Aurelis' Wolfguards, still sticking their loyalty to Hardin. Fortunately for Marth, the King of Aurelis bore a message that he wished to maintain Aurelis' neutrality rather than continuing to stick with his fallen brother. He pleaded for Marth to put Hardin's suffering to an end. With the King's orders, the Wolfguards had no choice but to retreat, allowing Marth to continue to advance to Archanea.

Before Marth's army arrived, a rebellion within Archanea has occurred led by the Paladin Midia. However, Hardin's forces quelled the rebellion, and yet still has a sizable forces enough to make a stand against Marth. As Marth stopped by at Knorda, he was approached by one of the Wolfguards, Roshea, who wanted to do what was right and save Hardin's soul. Thanks to this, the Wolfguards started to defect one by one, starting from Vyland, then Sedgar and then Wolf. However, one thing was clear: All four were extremely troubled with Hardin's actions, but since they swore loyalty, they hoped that he'll wake up one day, but they had to accept that the Hardin they knew was dead and was replaced by a mad tyrant, especially when Wolf remembered that Hardin once advised them to strike him down should he stray from the path of righteousness.

As Marth finally reached the Archanean palace, he reunited with an old ally, Bishop Boah, at death's door. He explained his part in Hardin's fall to madness, blaming himself for it and begged for both forgiveness and for Marth to save Nyna, as Hardin handed her over to Gharnef.

Hardin was just about to execute Midia when Marth stormed the castle and whisked her away to safety with the Rescue Staff. Confronting Hardin, Marth learned about Hardin's harbored jealousy that he has stored since the War of Shadows, when he was not chosen to wield the Fire Emblem and was unleashing his jealousy and hatred towards the world. Without any other choice, Marth fought against Hardin who was also armed with the Gradivus. The Lightsphere broke through the shield of the Darksphere, and as Marth's final blow struck Hardin, he was freed from the Darksphere's influence. Hardin expressed his regret that he wasn't strong enough to resist the Darksphere and hoped that Marth and Nyna would forgive him for his actions and that Marth would save Nyna, after all those, in the end, he still loved her genuinely.

Marth has done it. He liberated Archanea. Nyna, Lena, Maria and Elice came to greet him, but the Binding Shield shone and revealed that they were apparitions created by Gharnef to strike at him. He has but one more main quest: Save the clerics and seal the Earth Dragons.

However, thanks to bringing in Katarina, he also found out about the hideout of the Assassins. With Katarina leading, Marth struck at the Assassins' headquarters and defeated Eremiya. On death's door, Eremiya's memories as a sweet and loving caretaker that was thrown into despair when her orphanage was destroyed was brought back to her by Gharnef, and was mocked that she became a cold, heartless caretaker thanks to his magic afterwards, causing her to die in anguish than peace.

War of Heroes — Final Battle with the Earth Dragon
Gotoh has spotted that Gharnef was located at the Dragon Palace in Wyvern's Dale, north of Macedon. The giant warrior Ymir also stopped by to help him. By chance, Minerva found a village and when visiting there, she found Michalis gravely wounded. She asked for him to hold on until Marth arrived, and he did arrive. Michalis then handed over the spell Starlight that he stole from Gharnef, giving him a chance to defeat him in case he used the Imhullu spell. He asked Marth to have Minerva save Maria in his place before passing out.

As Marth managed enter the Dragon Palace, Minerva stayed with Michalis, crying her eyes out in preparation to bury him. Miraculously, it turned out that Michalis just lost consciousness, he wasn't completely dead yet. After patching up, he decided to lend a hand to Marth's army, just in case. But he's still handing over the job to save Maria to her. After all he's done, he felt like he didn't have the rights to look at her again.

As Marth entered the Dragon's Palace, Gotoh came bringing in another aid: Another Divine Dragon named Nagi. They managed to confront Gharnef where he revealed that he planned to sacrifice the four clerics to resurrect Medeus as a Shadow Dragon. And once again, he was carrying the Imhullu spell, and once again, its invincibility was pierced through by the Starlight and the Dark Pontifex now died for good.

When Marth reached Medeus, he noticed that the four clerics have been brainwashed, standing and doing nothing, only waiting to be devoured by Medeus. Marth was faced with the dilemma that he might have to strike down the clerics dead in order to defeat Medeus and perhaps even his voice alone wouldn't reach someone as close as Elice. Thankfully for him, Julian, Minerva and Merric came and snapped Lena, Maria and Elice out of their trance by declaring their feelings to them. Nyna was another problem, however, as in addition of the brainwashing, she was wracked with guilt over hurting Hardin and driving him to despair. It was Sirius who reported the good news about Hardin's peaceful passing and it was all over, and his similarity to Camus also woke Nyna up, although Sirius denied how he's actually Camus.

With the four clerics freed, there was nothing else protecting Medeus and Marth once again struck him down with Falchion. The world was saved once more, and his army was celebrating. Tiki was glad that with the Binding Shield complete, she didn't have to worry of degenerating into a beast. Marisha has noticed that Caeda has been rather shy on talking to Marth due to his busy times, and encouraged her to say her thanks. As such, both Marth and Caeda expressed thanks to each other and they grew even closer than they were before, with Marth stating that he will need her help to build Archanea's future together.

With the war over, everyone returned to their respective homes. Princess Nyna entrusted the future of Archanea to Marth as she eventually vanished. With Marth as the new King of Archanea and Caeda as his Queen, Archanea entered an age of peace that would last for a millenium to come.

However, two thousand years after the war, another demonic force would appear to bring ruin to the continent, now known as Ylisse, and thus the heroic lineage of Marth and Caeda would have to protect it. But that is a story to be told another day...
