  • Becoming the Mask: Considering the episode is all about undercover work and its inherit dangers, this trope was played with in every which way possible.
  • Curtains Match the Windows: Malika has brown hair and eyes to match.
  • Disguised in Drag: When looking for a volunteer to be a mole in the Red Robins, O'Farrell attempts to volunteer by wearing a girl's outfit. Vallejo immediately shoots him down.
  • Fallen Hero: Malika was once Vallejo's partner on the Safety Patrol, but she enjoyed being with the Red Robins so much she quit all of her clubs to stay with them.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Vallejo's old partner is shown from the back during the flashback, but astute viewers can notice that she has the same hairstyle and color as Malika. Vallejo identifies her by name just shortly afterwards.
  • Girl Scouts Are Evil: The Red Robins and their unsavory means of selling taffy are clearly an allegory for gangs and gang activity.
  • Hero of Another Story: The briefly seen head of the fishing club is either this or the Villain of Another Story, depending on your view of fishing, as he is introduced trying to catch a large, infamous fish named Nicodemus and vows to keep trying after it turns out he's only hooked a sunken box of cookies.
  • Indestructible Edible: O'Farrell eats a tub of 10-year-old cookie dough. Ingrid states because of the amount of preservatives in it it would outlast The Sphinx.
  • Look Behind You: Early in the episode, Fillmore and Ingrid trick Vallejo into letting them have new walkie-talkies. When he finds out about it, the duo quickly distracts him and bail.
  • New Kid Stigma: At the start of the episode, a cheerleader is handing out invitations to a party she's throwing. When she comes to Ingrid's desk, though, she just tells her she's not invited because she's still too new to the school.
  • Shadow Archetype: Malika to Ingrid. Both girls are shown to be smart and quirky, but unable to fit in with their peers. While Malika quits the safety patrol to join the Red Robins, Ingrid doesn't.
