Tropes

  • At Least I Admit It: Unlike his previous paramour in which he had an affair, this time Carter leaves Babs to be with Tricia.
  • Continuity Nod: Tricia's overbearing mother previously appeared in "Twelve and a Half Angry Men".
  • Everyone Is a Suspect: Played for Laughs when Peter's car gets vandalized after he won't shut up about his standing desk (on Carter's orders).
  • Evil Is Petty: Upon finding out Peter is now his employee, Carter forces his hated son in law to do humiliating things. This includes having a standing desk while constantly lecturing everyone on the health benefits. Peter grows to like it, but his car is vandalized, and the newspaper headline afterwards says that Everyone Is a Suspect.
  • Karma Houdini: Although publicly exposed for his toxic can scheme, Carter faces no criminal or civil consequences.
  • Oh, Crap!: Peter's reaction when his act of Taking the Bullet by drinking Tricia's spiked drink results in his rented tuxedo being ruined by his subsequent vomiting and crapping. He is subsequently seen quickly returning the tuxedo and running away from the store he rented it from.
  • Skewed Priorities: Carter when he falls in love with Tricia
  • Stupid Evil: Carter plans to use cheaper materials for the brewery cans, even though they are toxic. He may save "a few bucks" in the short term, but he would end up drowning in criminal investigations and lawsuits if his plan went through.
  • Take That!: The characters watch a game show in which the contestants must guess whether the host is describing Jake Gyllenhaal or Jared Leto. Some of the clues provided are "I am oily-haired with dinner plate eyes," "I am a less successful version of Tobey Maguire," and "You would totally believe any story about me being a dick."
  • Variant Chess: When Tricia has Peter play Chess:
Tricia: Alright, Peter. It's time to master the game of Chess.
Peter: Okay, that shouldn't be too hard...
Tricia: (slapping Peter's hand away) No! You will do it in the traditional Japanese way — on a wacky game show, while a beautiful woman beats your scrotum with a reed.
(Smash Cut to Peter being involved in that exact scenario.)
