Recap / Fairy May Cry, 10 "More Fairies Fall"

Go To

With Levy missing and four of their own injured, the members of Fairy Tail scramble to find who's responsible. The search party of Cana, Alzack, Bisca and the Thunder Legion find Vergil, but the fight does not as they hope.

  • Berserk Button: Vergil insulting Laxus makes Evergreen furiously attack him, using her Magical Eye as an opening move.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • When Alzack and Bisca wondering who kidnapped Levy and why, the former notes that if it were for ransom Lucy is the one with the rich dad. Cana brings up he went broke from the canon episode Love and Lucky.
    • When Vergil faces the Thunder Legion, he questions why they weren't punished like their leader Laxus in the Battle for Fairy Tail. From the same scene, Evengreen mentions Erza only broke free of her stone gaze since she had an artificial eye.
  • Cool Sword: Vergil's Yamato, capable of cutting through spells up to and including Freeds previously thought to be impenetrable Jutsu-Shiki barriers.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle:
    • Vergil's battle with Alzack, Bisca and Cana has him easily avoid or cut down all of their attacks, the 'fight' not even lasting a minute.
    • While it takes slightly more effort on his part, the Thunder Legion quickly fold within a few attacks each, and don't make so much as a scratch. Even Evergreen's Magical Eye has no effect.
  • Doesn't Like Guns: Vergil makes his disdain for firearms clear, calling them 'primitive attacks'.
  • It's Personal: Fairy Tail's response when discovering the beaten members from the last chapter, despite not knowing who is responsible yet.
  • Never Bring a Knife to a Gun Fight: Defied, as both Alzack and Bisca use firearms against Vergil. Too bad their opponent is Vergil and his Yamato is the superior weapon in the matchup.
  • No-Sell: Vergil manages this twice in his fight with the Thunder Legion. Evergreen's Magical Eye only freezes him for a few seconds (according to him because he has a demons eyes) and Yamato lets him cut through Freeds Jutsu-Shiki barrier.
  • Smug Super: Vergil is arrogant as ever, dismissing the Fairy Tail members he faces as little more than insects... and the subsequent 'fights' show that this is entirely justified.
  • Technicolor Fire: Vergil's hideout has a green flame at the centre, which according to him originates from the Underworld and has been burning for centuries.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Downplayed in that they take the fight seriously and pull out all the stops, but the Thunder Legion expect a solid victory against Vergil and are repeatedly caught off guard by him no selling their usual tactics and are thrashed by the end.
  • Villain Has a Point: When the Thunder Legion question his lack of care for his own brother, Vergil throws back that they basically betrayed their own guild with the Battle of Fairy Tail. What's more, despite their loyalty to the man and being key parts of his plan, they did not share in Laxus' punishment.
  • Villain Takes an Interest: Part of Vergil's plan seems to be determining why his brother joined in the first place, and already regards their more powerful members like Erza and Natsu with interest.
  • The Worf Effect: Vergil continues his streak of inflicting this on his opponents, trouncing the entire Thunder Legion at once.
