Recap / Everybody Hates Chris S 1 E 6 Everybody Hates Halloween

Go To

  • Anachronism Stew: Rick James' "Ebony Eyes" plays at the Halloween party, and Chris dances to it with Lisa. The episode is set on Halloween of 1982, while that song was released on November 14th of 1983.
  • Bland-Name Product: Julius buys a bunch of knock-off candy for extremely cheap (a whole bucket's worth amounting to exactly $1.99). Examples include Nickers (Snickers), Gravy Ways (Milky Ways with a gravy filling/taste), and Butterthumbs (Butterfingers).
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Doc is called "Mr. Harris" (though Harris turns out to be his surname) instead of his nickname.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Keisha would've never snapped at Chris, and Chris would've never gotten whooped for going to an inappropriate party had he just never accepted the invitation that wasn't even his; it was Drew's, who turned it down to go trick-or-treating.
  • Halloween Episode
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Keisha was acting very rude to Chris for something as simple as asking her for a dance (though the narration does clarify that in reality all she said to Chris was "no" when he asked her so it's likely he imagined her being rude when she actually wasn't), but, to be fair, he did show up uninvited, as she invited Drew and Drew passed it to Chris. To be fair to Chris, she has no authority over a party managed by a bunch of adults in a liquor store of all places.
  • Kick the Dog: Keisha yelling at Chris for asking her for a dance.
  • Pet the Dog: Lisa, Keisha's older friend, is pretty shocked by Keisha's meltdown and asks Chris if he's alright, offering him a dance.. as long as he doesn't touch her butt.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Rochelle finds out that Chris gave out the wrong address to the party through Sheila, who didn't want Keisha going to a party with a bunch of adults. Chris returns home from a night dancing with an older, attractive girl to his mother waiting for him at the door with a belt.
